Description

Pukawa Lodge is a lovely wooden house, nestled amongst the native bush of Pukawa Bay with Lake Taupo only a beautiful 3 minute walk away.

This is the perfect base for fishing the Tongariro River, whitewater rafting, walking the Tongariro Crossing, skiing Mt Ruapehu, relaxing in the natural hot pools of Tokaanu or simply exploring the southern end of Lake Taupo.

The house is hidden by nature and surrounded by peace and quiet, with wild quails, tui and other native birds, happily visiting the house. An extensive deck reaches far into the garden with plenty of space to relax in the sun or shade, entertain others for dinner, or simply sit and read a book.

The house is located down a quiet no-through lane, so there are rarely other cars to disturb the peace. There is plenty of parking space on the back lawn for visitors behind the house and you are able to drive right round so easy access and parking for a boat and trailer.

Pukawa Bay is a beautiful 3 minute walk away, down a public pathway or the main village road takes you all the way to the boat ramp for easy access to the water. Essentially you need a car here, however there are lovely signposted walks through the native bush to neighbouring bays of Kuratau and Omori, where you will find a village shop and cafe.

The Bay is one of the most beautiful bays on the lake. It is completely private and has wonderful clear water. The beach of volcanic black sand means it is ideal for families and safe swimming. There are a couple of seating areas, an open space for sports and traffic is kept to a minimum. This is an ideal house for family fun, fishing enthusiasts, or couples and friends wanting to chill out for the weekend. If you love to ski, It is also ideally located for a 40 minute drive to the Whakapapa Ski fields on Mount Ruapehu. The fabulous natural hot pools are just a 5 minute drive away.

Cool in the summer and warm and cosy in the winter, means the house is available for guests all year round.

  • Well equipped though the house was very dark and smelled damp

Well equipped though the house was very dark and smelled damp. Cobwebs and dead insects everywhere suggesting it hasn't been attended to in awhile. Otherwise OK if you're on a budget.

    Owner/manager responds:

We are so disappointed to see that the cleaner missed going in before your stay. We pride ourselves on a clean house for visitors the cleaning company has apologised profusely for missing the clean. The house is a classic wooden house surrounded by native trees, although not dark inside (see photos), possibly in the middle of Winter it won't be as bright as Summertime. It is a warm and cosy house in Winter and light and airy in Summer!
