Description

  • We now have a second bedroom called the bunkhouse which can sleep up to 5 people
  • Plenty of outside space for children and adults alike.
  • We offer bird watching tours for adults who like us share a passion for our native flora and fauna.

A peaceful rural location suitable for families who enjoy the natural world. Varied bird life with many bush and beach walking opportunities. We are not a camping ground in that you hire all three cabins (converted railway wagons); one with the facilities in it and two bedroom units suitable for 2 couples or a larger family. Our landscaped grounds are available for guests to explore and enjoy.

If you love the countryside you will love staying at Te Rakau.

For cyclists on the Rimutaka Cycle Trail we are approx 30 kms south of Cross Creek.

We can also take you on fully guided half or full day bird watching tours for those who want to explore the area in more depth and learn about the bush, wetlands and coastal birds around us. The cost for these tours is $100 pp for 1/2 day tour and $180 pp for a full day tour.

Special conditions: While pets are welcome we insist that they are under control at all times and that they be kept outside the cabins on the deck. Please let us know when you book if you are bringing a dog. For cyclists we are willing to supply food for self cook dinners, continental breakfasts and supplies for a packed lunch @ $50pp .

  • The cabins are perfect for families

The cabins are perfect for families. Lovely short walks around the cabins and the beach not far away (5km). Quirky but clean, so great to have linen and towels provided, too! We'll be back :-)

  • A well set up property to stay in

A well set up property to stay in. The converted baches work really well. Great place to end the days biking and get ready for the next.

We were using Te Rakau Cabins as accommodation for our trip on the Rimutaka Cycle Trail. It was ideal as it is very close to Ocean Beach and the last leg of the trail. Quirky accommodation in the old railway cabins but still beautifully set out. Highly recommended!!
