Description

  • Beautiful views over the estuary and coastline, whilst listening to the sea when the swells up.
  • Warrington beach is 2km away, great surfing swimming or an early sunrise walk.
  • Karitane is a lovely seaside town at the end of the scenic coast rd 10kms from Warrington.

Blueskin cottage has a panoramic view over the estuary, in the evening if its very still over the water its particularly stunning.

The cottage is surrounded in a variety of native plants that attract the large wood pigeons & bellbirds. There is always the sound of birds.

Two km's away is the surf patrolled Warrington beach, there is a lovely walk to the end of the spit which ends at the mouth of the estuary a return walk can be taken on the inside of the spit.

When the tide is low enough you can collect clams (cockles) from the beds either side of the shallow channel which is nearest to the cottage.

There is a children's park next to the domain area behind the beach on the spit, good for picnics.

In the summer if the tide is coming in at the end of the day the water will warm up over the sand so paddling or swimming is recommended.

A few minutes away is Blueskin nursery which has an great cafe with excellent food & of course lots plants & handicrafts.

The Orokonui eco-sanctuary is on the road to Port Chalmers after turning off at Waitati. There is a very interesting visitor centre with displays about the native species they are working with.

There is a good cafe with wonderful views over the bay with the Silver Peaks as a backdrop.

Karitane is a fishing village 10 km's up the coast rd, you can hire kayaks or pop into the shop for ice creams. Explore the rocks at the south end of a the lovely beach.

Dunedin is less than twenty minutes away & there is a long list of things to do there & places to eat, a variety of Asian cafe style eateries to great restaurants like Plato for seafood and interesting surroundings,

The new Early settlers museum is laid out so well a couple of hours would easily disappear as you become absorbed by interesting stories that created Dunedin.

Taiaroa Heads where the Northern Royal Albatross nest is 30 minutes down the Otago peninsula road.

We loved Blueskin Bay its such a beautiful spot, The cottage was a beautiful wee spot with amazing views. It was alot bigger than I thought it was going to be and we loved being able to sit on the deck and eat dinner together looking out to the Bay

Great all-round experience! This bach is in a wonderful spot - beautiful scenery and surrounds, great beaches and very private. What a treat to have found the bach CLEAN and TASTEFULLY DECORATED (contrary to so many other baches we have stayed in!) I am SO over the "iconic Kiwi bach" with all its mismatched crockery and everything else grandma threw out, so we really appreciated the thought that had gone into making the inside environment so pleasant. Thank you for a great stay.
