Description

  • Romantic escape with amazing sea views -180 degrees plus.
  • Architecturally designed glass house
  • Nature lover's retreat

Modern architecturally designed bach (1dbed/open plan by Melling Morse) plus guest caravan overlooking the sea at Tuateawa, north-east of Coromandel town. This bach has been featured in '100 Dream Homes from Down Under' , 'House and Garden' February 2012 and 'Big House Little House'.

The bach is located beside a large Pohutakawa tree with intimate sea views below and beyond to Mercury Island and the surrounding native bush. Excellent views from the jetty deck when dolphins or Orcas visit the bay. Also great for viewing Tuateawa's surf break when it's working.

The 1970s Chevron caravans are located across the lawn from the deck of the house. The orange one is set up for extra guests as sleeping acommadition. It has its own deck and sea veiws. The blue caravan is a quite space plus storage for recreational equipment. There is a separate shower and toilet externally accessed to serve the caravans.

A natures lover's retreat with Tui, Kereru, Kaka, pheasants and quail visiting. Leave an outside light on at night and Puriri moths bring Morepork owls right on to the deck.

Tuateawa has a stony beach which is good for kayaking, fishing, snorkelling and swimming at high tide. Great for rock pool exploring. Look for Eagle rays at low tide in the shallows.

The Tuateawa boat ramp is just down the road for the launching of kayaks and tin boats.

While 10 minutes further north are the classic sandy swimming beaches of Little Bay and Waikawau.

Little Bay is a sheltered bay, a great safe beach for children, with a lagoon and Pohutukawa trees for shade. Waikawau beach is a beautiful long stretch of golden sand, with good waves, popular with board riders and surf casters. Waikawau campground has a shop during the summer months for essentials.

Special conditions: Full linen and towels provided for guests in the house. Bring linen and towels for extra guests using the caravans. Additional linen can also be provided for $50/bed/stay for caravan guests. Comfortable for 4 adults plus extra beds in caravans suit kids. MAXIMUM 4 GUESTS. Minimum 7 days over Xmas/New Year. CD player, stereo amp and tannoy speakers provided, plus you can plug in your i-pod or laptop. Smoking allowed outside only. No TV coverage, but a TV monitor with a selection of movies.

  • What a wonderful experience and setting

What a wonderful experience and setting. It is difficult to describe the serenity but lets just say the weather was not the best to go out and explore but we apprecited the opportunity to bunk down and stay inside. Watching the weather patterns and water changing colours was all part of an amazing experience. The bach is very well facilitated, amazing shower and hot water pressure, big glass windows, foireplace, what more could one want!!! Owners are fantastic at communication too. Welldone

  • An amazing house with access to rugged North Coromandel spots

An amazing house with access to rugged North Coromandel spots. Even when the weather was stormy and wild the view was spectacular. Soaking in a hot bath with unique views and stoking up the fire made an exhausting day of trekking so rewarding. I'd have absolutely no hesitation in recommending this to anyone looking for a beautiful, memorable stay in this stunning part of the country.

We spent 5 days in the bach as a break in our busy Auckland's life and enjoyed every single minute there. The house is modern eco style, warm and cosy, very well maintained and equipped. But what makes the place so special is the spectacular views over the ocean, it's incredibly beautiful! We definitely want to come back soon!
