  • Culture and history - an area with a rich history waiting for you to discover it

Whare Onepoto is less than 200 metres away from the sand at Onepoto Bay (Horseshoe Bay) and you can enjoy seaviews from the deck, main living area and two of the three bedrooms.

Onepoto is a secluded peaceful settlement nestled in native bush, with great swimming, surfing, fishing and bush walks in the area. The beach has a shallow and sandy bottom with a wide open bay and rock pools on the right hand side so it’s a perfect place to take young children. There’s a bush walk up through native bush to the Hicks Bay Motels. Anglers can enjoy good fishing spots from the rocks to the left of the Bay or at the nearby Hicks Bay wharf, launch boats from the Bay or book a fishing charter that departs from Onepoto.

The East Coast is reputed to be the first place in the country to see the sun and a trip to the East Cape Lighthouse (40 minute drive) is a great place to watch the sun rise. You can also visit the largest pohutukawa tree in New Zealand outside the local primary school in Te Araroa (15 minutes drive).

Get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy a romantic holiday with your partner or a fun-filled family holiday by the beach.

Excellent position in a tranquil place in a wonderful part of New Zealand. The bach was very well appointed with everything that was needed. No wifi but the community hall opposite has computers. For us, it meant were able to meet with some of the community too. At night, to see the stars (Milky Way easily visible) and hear the sound of the surf on the beach, made for an unforgettable memory. Yearn to return.
