Description

Historic Pilot's Cottage nestled in the dunes of Aramoana Spit between the ocean beach and the tidal flats.

Experience wide ever-changing skies and a landscape where the tides and the sealions rule.

Collect cockles and mussels at low tide. Enjoy being stranded at high tide.

Watch albatrosses, godwits, herons, and yellow-eyed penguins coming in at dusk.

Fish from The Mole, kayak to Te Ngaru and surf at Lion's Rock. Wave at the cruise ships going by, then come inside and hole up by the open fire.

Only 15 mins from the shops and cafes of Port Chalmers and 30 mins from Dunedin.

Safe upon the solid rock the ugly houses stand:

Come and see my shining palace built upon the sand!

Edna St. Vincent Millay.

The house is a quintessential kiwi bach, with mismatched crockery, open fires, wooden floors, and wonderful quirky art. It is private, just the perfect spot to recharge. We were blown away by the beautiful beach beside the house and there are so many places to explore. It is a hidden gem in a part of NZ that we knew nothing about. We will be back!

It has location, location, location with room to spread out when it is misty outside like it was for our weekend - hearing a ship's plaintive foghorn and seeing a huge ship slowly emerge from foggy gloom is quite something. The house is quirky and tilty and reminded me of a house in a children's picture book!
