  • Very quiet, we are well away from the State Highway, so there is no traffic noise.

The one bedroom apartment is located at Thornton Bay, approximately 10 kilometres north of Thames. It comes with all linen and cleaning is included. The apartment is cozy and has everything you need, and tea and coffee is provided. The beach is less than 100 metres away, for safe all tide swimming and good fishing. The studio faces north for all day sun and takes in wide sea views off the large deck. The apartment backs onto the Coromandel Forest Park and the native birdlife is abundant. The Waiomu Cafe and the local general store / fish and chip shop are both less than 5 minutes away. Historic Thames is 10 minutes by car, and Coromandel Town is only 45 minutes drive up the beautiful Thames Coast Road. Auckland and Hamilton are both only 1 1/2 hours drive, and Auckland International Airport is just over an hour's drive. Its a great base for hiking, fishing, cycling, or just exploring the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula. The well known destinations of Whitianga, Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach, and Coromandel Town are all no more than 1.5 hours drive. Hobbiton is also approximately 1.5 hours drive.

Guests have full access to the apartment, which is completely self contained. There is a dedicated parking space and the access is via a concrete driveway. There is a barbecue available for guest use. There is a toaster, microwave oven, fridge, tea and coffee provided, but there is no hob or oven. A gas burner can be provided on request.

Hosts John and Rose live in the house in front of the apartment and will be happy to assist with any special requests or information. Our old cat Ming is very friendly and will make you feel welcome!

    This property was adequate/leaning towards a Spartan one bedroom cottage. It did have a great deck with a great view of the bay. It helped that John and his family lived virtually next to the cottage and any issues could be and were remedied on the spot.

  • A tidy little property within sight of the beach

    A tidy little property within sight of the beach. Lovely to watch the sunsets from the large deck. Ming the cat was very welcoming. It's a short drive to Thames if you want to shop and lots of activities in the area. Note: book in advance if you want to do a fishing charter out of Thames. The bach was adequate for our needs but the kitchen is basic (we coped) and the bedroom could have done with some storage eg a chest of drawers. Otherwise it was an little piece of Eden and we enjoyed our stay.

    Thanks Dawn for your comments, much appreciated. Just a comment for all our customers - Local Council planning regulations, until very recently, have not allowed a full kitchen to be installed in a second dwelling on a property. However, this rule has very recently been changed to allow this. We will be updating the kitchenette this winter to provide a hob and small oven.

    This well-kept bach is more spacious than might appear from the online description. The living area has a sofa, easy chair, small dining table and a kitchen area; the bedroom is separate. A large deck has a view over the Firth of Thames. The somewhat limited cooking facilities (kettle, toaster, microwave, and electric skillet; no stovetop or standard oven) worked just fine for us. There's a excellent café just a couple of km north, plus cafes/restaurants in Thames and in Coromandel Town.
