Description

Wildside Getaway is a modern, self-sufficient eco-home on a tranquil 350 acre native bush property, with inspirational views of Mount Ruapehu and Mount Taranaki. This is the perfect getaway for families and groups looking for a genuine New Zealand outdoors experience and is also ideal as a base for snow sports, with a large drying room, great log fire and spacious games room. Stunning landscapes and wildlife make Wildside Getaway a paradise for lovers of the outdoors and photographers.

This lodge has been developed with sustainability in mind and is a great example of a warm, comfortable off-the-grid home. Power is provided by solar panels and wind turbines and hot water is provided by a combination of a wetback from the large wood burner, solar and instant gas.

All windows, doors and skylights are double-glazed and insulation has been maximised. Low emission paints, floorings and furnishings and sustainable building materials have been used where practical. Numerous items of furniture have been handcrafted from recycled native timber.

The house has a Homestar self-assessment rating of 7 stars out of 10.

The property is in the heart of adventure country, with snowboarding, skiing, hunting, fishing, mountain biking, tramping, quad biking, canoeing, kayaking and scenic flights in the immediate vicinity. Only 25 minutes to base of Whakapapa skifield; 40 minutes to Ohakune; 10 minutes to end of 42nd Traverse; 25 minutes to canoeing the Whanganui River from Taumarunui, or 60 minutes from Whakahoro.

On request we can offer guided hunting, target shooting, trap or clay pigeon shooting, archery, alternative energy demonstrations and team building for schools and corporates. There is a large projector screen for viewing presentations and video.

  • The bach was beautiful

The bach was beautiful. It was clean, modern and luxurious and in a beautiful setting. Perfect for a few friends especially if the weather was bad as you can just hang out by the fire, play pool, drink and eat and enjoy the view from the dining room or deck. I highly recommend this bach.

Awesome spot - we used it for a skiing base - but if the weather had failed us the kids would have been happy to spend the days exploring and playing outside on the beautiful land! Wicked house....and location. Thanks so much. You have done a fantastic job up there!!!

  • I hate to admit it but the thing I liked most about...

I hate to admit it but the thing I liked most about the bach was the projector for watching films and TV. The house was comfy and user friendly. Its location on the edge of ancient bush hiding deer and goats is great and the view of Ruapehu opens your eyes a little bit wider. Things to do: Brave the cold at the last light and go out to look for deer. Plus all that guide book stuff.

A wonderful property and house. Comfortably housed 11 people, and the facilities for a relaxing weekend away from the city. Fantastic views, and a great warm house. Would go back in a heartbeat!
