Lodge | Upper Hutt City | #10754
An enchanting private bush retreat to get away from it all.
Set in the beautiful rural Akatarawa Valley, approx 1 hour from Wellington, you will be able to leave the busy city behind and instead enjoy bundles of space to explore. Here, you will be able to curl up and read a book, explore many walking tracks full of native bush while enjoying the songs of local native birds. Don't be surprised if you even see a deer or pig roaming the tracks!
Guided tramps to suit the walkers level of fitness are available and if you want to bring your bike, there are suitable tracks for mountain biking.
The lodge layout is similar to an open plan tramping lodge and provides self servicing accommodation for up to 10 people. It has two mezzanine sleeping areas, with separate shower and toilet. The outdoor bath will give you a chance to unwind under the stars.
Heating for the hut is provided by an open fire place and there is a wood range for cooking. Fire wood is provided.
Antler Lodge is off the road and up a steep gravel road, and does require either rear wheel drive or 4 wheel
drive vehicle. Safe parking of cars is therefore right beside the lodge. If you don't have a 4 wheel drive vehicle, transportation can be provided up/down to the lodge if required, and your vehicle can be parked at the bottom of the hill safely on private land.
Children can enjoy a place to roam and explore for hours, play on our rope swing, or snuggle down in the hidden bedroom! Rivers for swimming are close by and you can even visit glow worm grottos.
Local Valley attractions include Staglands Wildlife Reserve and Café as well as two blueberry farms for berry picking in summer.
Antler Lodge is suitable for families, tramping groups, wildlife enthusiasts, and those just wanting to escape to the country.
Catering is available by prior arrangement. A helipad at the lodge allows for a 15 minute flight from Queens Wharf.
Firearms are not permitted but wildlife photography is encouraged!
Special conditions: Smoking allowed outside only. Prices are negotiable for longer term stays, or larger groups at Antler Lodge. Please enquire via email.

The well equipped lodge is a large room, with a kitchen one end, bunks the other, with a little nook and a mezzanine, and a front deck overlooking the amazing view. The outdoor bath is a few steps out of the side door onto another deck, and the bathroom shower (gas) and loo (proper full flush) is also out there. The fireplace is huge and romantic and the woodrange a good practical heat source. fabulous secluded location- our car wouldn't have got up there so Larry took us in his ute.
