Description

  • Set amongst native bush with good privacy
  • Characterful Cottage
  • Bush and mountain views

Set back from the road on the Lake Peninsular, this older, more basic style cottage is so private that it requires you to weave through the surrounding native bush to get to the door. This house is a classic example of 1970s NZ architecture and it is set on a number of levels, with the living and kitchen areas set around a big log burner. A proper original bach, it is a place to relax and recharge. Approx 10 minutes walk to Lake Rotoiti and approx 10 minutes drive to St. Arnaud Village Store.

Special conditions: Not recommended for small children (steep staircase). No pets. Smoking outside only (please dispose of butts thoughtfully). This property relies on rain water for its water supply. Please conserve water especially in dry periods. Thanks.

Location is great, only drawback about this place is the fire - not all of the smoke goes up the chimney so it is too smoky to sleep in the bed above the kitchen/lounge area

    Owner/manager responds:

The fireplace has now been replaced, so the issue with the chimney is no longer a problem.

  • Rustic, basic, but good value for money

Rustic, basic, but good value for money. Sleeping arrangements are a bit limited but if you're not too fussy then can sleep 3 -5 or more by moving mattresses out and about. Quiet Kiwiana!

  • Lovely and character filled bach

Lovely and character filled bach. Possibly time to fix the fire flue though as smoke does escape into the bach, even when it's burning hot.

  • Loved the location in the bush, handy to the lake and village

Loved the location in the bush, handy to the lake and village. Lovely layout with a good sized seating area and lots of comfy seating options. Weather was horrendous and so we were housebound. Maybe if it was finer we would have like more outside areas.
