A wonderful couple of days in a peaceful but extremely scenic location. The accommodation was of the highest order. The unit is a perfect size for a couple wanting to maximise the opportunity to relax. But even better than the accommodation was our most obliging hostesss, Bridget’s knowledge of the area was second to none and she helped us decide on which walks would best suit us. Bridget was the perfect hostess in that you never really knew she was there but whenever we had a question to ask she was readily available. Dog lovers would thoroughly enjoy the company of her two lovely dogs.
wonderful time relaxing and exploring the makarora area. the old school house has plenty of history and its upgraded for all the comforts. full kitchen was great to settle in and do some cooking. water on gas so no worries about running out of hot water. wifi connection good. don't delay, book today
We stayed in the Schoolhouse enjoying its comfort and rural views. The location is close to wonderful day walks and Bridget provided us with the advice and details we needed to enjoy this area.
An absolutely beautiful property and well looked after by Bridget. Thank you!!
We couldn't have been happier with our visit to Makarora and accommodation at Hawkshead. Bridget went out of her way to welcome us, offer local knowledge and activity suggestions, and help us feel at home. The Makarora valley is a splendid base for outdoor activities or just taking in spectacular scenery. It's blissfully removed from the bustle of Queenstown/Wanaka and the West Coast, yet readily accessible to both should you choose to visit. We hope to visit again soon, and would return to Hawkshead without hesitation.
