Description

Hello, from Nicky and Mal

Based on the outskirts of Taradale, we are ten minutes from the airport, shops, restaurants, beach, golf course (golf clubs provided) and wineries. We are two minutes from the Hawkes Bay cycle way, providing you with numerous routes to enjoy. This is a great way to explore our wonderful wineries throughout the bay, or you can take a short ride to Ahuriri where you can enjoy great ocean views, shops, bars and restaurants. Just down the road from Violet Annie's, is the Puketapu pub, a great country style pub with a wonderful family feel and awesome food. Other local attractions for you to enjoy are horse riding, Te mata Peak, walking the ranges, Ocean spa, shopping in beautiful Art Deco Napier, museums, art galleries, skate and bike parks and gannet island.

Come and enjoy all Hawkes Bay has to offer whilst staying in our homely cottage. Violet Annie's Cottage began its long journey back in 1912 in Scotland, where it was pre-fabricated of Scottish pine, then shipped to Napier to be assembled under the Poraiti cliffs on the large Ahuriri lagoon or Te Whanganui a Orotu. In the early 1900's the lagoon was a popular, sheltered recreation area, rich in seafood and shellfish. Back then, the wealthy owners used the cottage as a weekend retreat, sailing there from the Ahuriri port.

In 1931 the massive Napier earthquake dramatically altered the shape of Napier and the lagoon, lifting several thousand acres of land out of the water and suddenly the cottage was land locked. It has been repositioned on the same property and is twice it's original size, retaining it's original character.

Pets and children are very welcome at Violet Annie's. We have sheep and chickens that the children will enjoy. We also have children's books and toys, and board games for adults to enjoy. Complimentary refreshments and snacks await your arrival. If you have any special dietary or other requirements, please let us know so we can plan for this.

Special conditions:

Smoking allowed outside only.

Dogs permitted in the garden and porch area inside the property.

Breakfast provisions, cheese, crackers, nibbles and wine await your arrival, allowing you to unwind and relax after your journey.

We had a wonderful stay and the kids were well catered for. Even a delightful dip in their pool which we weren't expecting! So lovely to be right on the cycle path for cycling and running. Love the history of the cabin.

The cottage is a lovely property in the country-side just outside of Napier. I stayed with friends from overseas and really enjoyed showing them a slice of vintage and rural NZ. The cottage has everything you could need for a short stay and I think the fire in the winter time would be gorgeous. We really appreciated the breakfast food (especially fresh eggs) and treats left by Nicky. Thoroughly recommend this as a place to stay when visiting the Bay (noting that you will need a car).

  • The cottage is delightful, rustic and in a very quiet country location

The cottage is delightful, rustic and in a very quiet country location. Everything we could possibly need was supplied, and while it is "off the beaten track" it's not too far away from shops and Napier.
