Long Beach Post Office is a quintessential Kiwi bach in the relaxing seaside community of Long Beach Dunedin, only 25 mins scenic drive north of the University city, Dunedin, and 10 mins away from Port Chalmers. Port Chalmers is a chalming, port town with artisan shops, cafes, restaurants, music venue (Chic’s Hotel), petrol station laundry mat and supermarket.

This cosy holiday home was the original Long Beach Post Office. The quaint, historical cottage is a well-loved, family get-away on a large, private, flat section. It is situated directly opposite a large domain with a children’s playground and cricket pitch. There is nothing more peaceful than waking to the songs of native birds, tui and bell birds, echoing off the cliffs to the backdrop of the gentle rolling surf.

UNLIMITED Wifi available onsite, also equipped with books, playstation 3, board games, iPod dock, DVD’s and CD’s.

Gas BBQ available on request.

Firewood is provided for the log burner which quickly warms the crib, and the recent new roof and insulation insures the cottage stays warm and comfy.

Long Beach itself, a renowned quiet, family-safe beach, offers an array of different activities including rock-climbing, caving, surfing, fishing, swimming, biking and bush/beach walks. Long beach caves are amazing, and the beach is surprisingly quiet given how beautiful it is. The name Long Beach comes from the fact that it is a very long, unspoiled beach. Bush walks are on both sides of the beach. Seals, dolphins and shellfish.

Orokonui Ecosanctuary, nationally renowned nature reserve, is a short 5 minute drive, with native birds (including Kiwis, Kaka, NZ Robin, takahe, kakariki, tui, kereru and tuatara lizard) café and education centre, perfect for family visits.

The bach can easily sleep 5 people, with possibility for one more. Please ask if required. 2 bedrooms, bathroom with shower, and clean outdoor toilet, open plan kitchen and living room.

Check in and out times negotiable upon request.

Special conditions: - Please do not use any outdoor areas for outdoor fire - Firewood is for log burner only - Please take away all rubbish - Please use carports on property, do not park on grass - No tents please - We rely on visitors cleaning up after stay, as per simple cleaning list left at Bach. The property has a really nice feeling, we felt instantly relaxed when we arrived there. Comfy couches and nice outdoor area. Didn't mind the outside toilet, it was pretty good as far as outhouses go! We already knew there was no washing machine so all good, although it would be handy if there was one. We enjoyed our stay and would love to come back. Thanks!

  • I loved the property and site

I loved the property and site. Very cute and enjoyable. The only thing that I didn't realize was that there isn't a laundry.. which is critical with boys!

    Owner/manager responds:

Thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. There is a laundry mat in Port Chalmers which is cheap and only 10mins away. Thanks for that, it is in the description but I'll have to make sure that people know about the laundry mat.

Lovely beach, birdsong and 'away from it all' location, though close enough to Dunedin if required. The outside loo met with a mixture of alarm and intrigue from the youngest member of the family - but she lived to tell of it. Would definitely consider it for a future stay.
