Coming to Pukawa to attend a wedding at Oreti or looking for a bit of relaxation or trout fishing in New Zealand's famous Lake Taupo or maybe just somewhere to relax after a days snow skiing? HazyDaze is located in a quiet bay, surrounded by native bush and perfect for relaxation where you can enjoy a game of petanque or toast marshmallows over the open fire or watch the tui's feeding.

Pukawa Bay, situated at the southern end of Lake Taupo, is a quiet, bush clad settlement with tons of bird life 15 minutes drive to the famous Tongariro river, 15 minutes from Turangi township, 10 minutes from the natural hot pools at Tokaanu and 40 minutes from the ski fields at Mt Ruapehu. It has numerous bush walks, a restaurant, and in Kuratau (5 minutes drive or 20 minutes bushwalk) a store, olive oil estate, winery and art galleries.

The beach is safe for swimming and kayaking with a boat ramp and plenty of room for parking trailers. There is a large park for exercising dogs or for ball sports.

HazyDaze is a traditional A-frame bach with heat pump so is always cosy, has a small ’love-shack’ out the back and a large relatively flat section and only 5 minutes walk to the lake and several small local stream mouths for the fly fisherman. There is under cover parking for one vehicle and space for more.

There are numerous things you can do including walking the Tongariro Crossing, one of the top 5 one-day walks in the world, take the kids to the trout hatchery, play mini golf, trout fishing or laze around the bach reading books in the cosy window seat, play available board games or watch DVD's.

The owner is an experienced fisherman and can offer fish guiding trips and catered options. Please talk with the owners if you are interested in either of these possibilities.

All beds are comfortable with duvets supplied. Please bring your own sheets, pillow cases, towels and tea towels. There is a well stocked pantry, however please replace any items you finish.

Firstly I LOVED it that we could bring our dog, who loved the beach and bush walks. The bach had everything we needed for a comfortable and peaceful holiday and more really i.e. we were invited to use the dvds and games plus the outdoor cooking facilities (bbq/fireplace). The weather was perfect so we picnic'd a couple of times on the front lawn amongst the trees and birds. I also found a few comfy well-lit spots inside for reading. We should have booked for longer!

What a little treasure! Such a quiet secluded location, nestled amongst native trees with amazing bird life. We had a great time, the Bach is set up with everything you need. Roasting marshmallows on the fire in the evening was a definite highlight. As was being about 3 metres away from a wood pigeon amongst the Kowhai trees in the yard. Lovely Bach, we'll definitely be back.

    Owner/manager responds:

Thanks Corinne. You are welcome back anytime:) Love the photo of the wood pigeon. When we first bought the property 30 years or more ago there was only one pair of wood pigeons now there are countless and bell birds some yellow heads and we have heard kiwi too. It is very exciting. Glad you enjoyed your stay and thanks for taking care of HazyDaze
