Our family of 8 had a great stay at Cas do Mestre. The house is every bit as nice as it appears on the website. I just loved all the stone work and timbers. Patricia and her husband met us in A Lama and guided us to the house and introduced us to all it's features. Patricia speaks English very well so that was good news, as we found out that English is not widely spoken in Galicia. She is a great host.
The house is in a rural setting, which we loved. It has been restored to a high quality. It is 3 floors with narrow stair cases, so be prepared for some climbing. It was a bit cool in May so we were encouraged to build a fire in the fireplace, which we enjoyed on several occasions. It was also cool for the pool, but our grandsons still managed a swim or two in that great pool.
The local town of A Lama has a very nice grocery store and a bakery. The closest larger town, which is 5 km away, is Ponte Caldelas. It has two larger grocery stores and numerous nice restaurants. We ate in those frequently. The prices were surprisingly reasonable.
Patricia has created a book for the house that has many local attractions and day trips. We enjoyed the thermal hot baths at Orsense, the beach at Sanxenxo & coastal drive, the castle at Soutomaior, lunch in Santiago, and several trips to Pontevedra, but the highlight was the trip to Islas Cies. The scenery and beaches there are spectacular. We also took a day trip to Portugal, which is only an hour's drive away.
If you like rural settings, this property will not disappoint you. Galicia is beautiful, and we have no reservations in recommending this location to you.
