A perfect weekend getaway!

Our party had both Drackenorth Lodge and Bower Cottage for a birthday celebration long weekend in early October. Everything was wonderful - communication with the owner beforehand was timely and very helpful and we were delighted to meet her during our stay. Directions to the property are clear and the location is absolutely stunning. The properties are very well equipped for large groups with plenty of cutlery, crockery and glassware. The only tiny issue was that we ran out of loo roll by day 2! Having read the house manual we realised that we should’ve brought our own as only enough to cover the first day or two is provided, and I may have missed that in the advance information pack sent! Still a wonderful weekend though and I would highly recommend!

8/10 Good

A lovely rural location and beautiful lodge

Picturesque rural setting with walks and animals to see (we even had a bat swoop in through the window!). Rope swings in the trees. Stunning lodge with plenty of space for groups or families, indoors and outdoors. Lovely welcome basket and friendly owners. We would return but possibly not with the grandparents next time. The wood floors and stairs were very slippery and there were a few falls during our stay. My elderly father-in-law found the stairs hard so preferred to stick to the ground floor. My 5 year old ended up in A&E with a minor head injury from slipping down the bottom steps and faceplanting on the wood floor (thankfully was ok) plus various parts of the floor were super-slidey. Bedrooms spacious with good size en-suites and lovely showers. The large wardrobes were much appreciated but with 8 people staying for a week (2 in each room), we were short of drawer space for our belongings - more drawer storage for clothes would be helpful. Twin room had a funny smell from when we arrived which we later discovered was from the duvet covers (they were clean but likely put away damp). We did really enjoy our stay but the combination of younger children, older relatives and steep stairs/slippy floors meant we could not relax entirely. I would recommend for groups of adults or families with older children (but probably not great for older folk or under 6s).
