About this property

Original and cozy apartment next to the Plaza Mayor

It opens an original and charming apartment, in the center, whose careful rehabilitation will seduce you with its charm and comfort.
A 5 minute walk from Callao, Plaza Mayor and Sol, the kilometer zero of Madrid.
Twenty minutes walk from the Paseo del Arte (Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofía Museums, CaixaForum, National Archeology, Mapfre Foundation. Recoletos Room, Casa de América, Cibeles Palace, Naval Museum, Museum of Decorative Arts, Royal Botanic Gardens, Royal Observatory.
Recently renovated, it is released as a tourist accommodation in the heart of Madrid.
Its decoration connects the old and the current in a balanced way, to create a cozy and very comfortable atmosphere.
The 1880 building has been rehabilitated maintaining the taste of the old but providing the necessary comforts such as the elevator.
The apartment consists of a bedroom, an original bathroom, full kitchen and a spacious living room with a comfortable double sofa bed and a dining area.
Full equipped. With washing machine, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, juicer, iron, hair dryer ...

It is comfortable and quiet, since the neighborhood is restricted to resident vehicles, so there is hardly any traffic. There are also no bars so close that they prevent rest, although the offer of places to eat is endless.
You will find single-dose coffee, tea, infusions, Cola Cao, juices, milk, sugar, buns and sweets ... everything you need for the first breakfast.
Also, to prepare something to eat, it has olive oil, vinegar, salt, pepper and other spices.

The apartment is located in the Plaza de San Martín, next to the Plaza de las Descalzas, one of the largest spaces in the center of Madrid but the least traveled, which gives it an unusual tranquility in the center.
This square is perfectly located within walking distance of the main attractions and restaurants of the historic city of Madrid. The Monastery of the Barefoot Royal, "Monastery of the Barefoot Royal", founded in 1559, is located next to this attractive square. It is the perfect location to escape the crowds.
There is a public car park in the same square, so it is very comfortable if you travel by car.
In this place are located La casa de las Alhajas, currently the exhibition hall of the Caja Madrid group, the 4-star hotel Palacio San Martín (with its outdoor terrace more than recommended for breakfast, lunch or dinner) that served as the first Embassy of The United States in Spain and some notable shops, such as a library for bibliophiles and a record store.
The Plaza Mayor, the Monastery of the Incarnation and the square of La Villa, where we can see buildings from the fifteenth, sixteenth and seventeenth centuries as the House of the Villa (former seat of the City Hall), the Tower of the Lujanes and the House of Cisneros are the main architectural complexes built during the Habsburg monarchy that are worth contemplating. Another place to visit is the Monastery of the Barefoot Royals. Now converted into a nunnery and former royal headquarters of the monarch Carlos I, it has a permanent exhibition of works of art from the 16th century onwards. In addition, the Palace of Santa Cruz, built in 1629, today houses the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
On this Madrid where the churches abounded and chaired by the Alcazar, an immense building that disappeared under the flames in 1734, was subsequently erected, already in time of the Bourbon dynasty, the Royal Palace and, with it, the gardens from the Plaza de Oriente, the Cathedral of La Almudena - with a museum through which you can access the dome of the temple from which you can enjoy beautiful views of the Madrid mountains - and other buildings from the 17th, 18th and 18th centuries XIX as the Collegiate Church of San Isidro - Madrid Cathedral until 1993 -, the Basilica of San Miguel, that of San Francisco el Grande or the Royal Theater, the Madrid opera forum.
In the surroundings there is also the Gaviria Palace, a luxurious palatial building from the s. XIX whose style reminds of the Italian Renaissance palaces that has been rehabilitated in recent years to host different exhibitions throughout the year.
Having seen all the monumental heritage of the area, we can stroll among the trimmed hedges of the Sabatini Gardens, at the foot of the north facade of the Royal Palace. Do not forget the Campo del Moro, a fabulous English-style garden whose elevated position was used to create one of the best perspectives in Madrid.
You choose if you prefer to do it on foot or on board a segway, a tuk tuk or a bike, thanks to a wide rental offer.
The area between Puerta del Sol and Gran Vía and its surroundings is, without a doubt, the axis on which Madrid's tourist, cultural and recreational life revolves. This area is usually the starting point or heading of any tourist route through the city, and failing that, it is a must for any visitor who wants to feel the heartbeat of Madrid.
The Puerta del Sol was in the fifteenth century that located the eastern limits of the city. After its expansion to the east, it became the nerve center of Madrid's life. It is a meeting point for visitors and locals who make their appointments either in Kilometer 0, in the statue of the bear and the arbutus, in the equestrian statue of Carlos III or in the reproduction of the Mariblanca. Every December 31, thousands of people gather here to greet the new year at the sound of the twelve chimes of their clock.
Younger is the Gran Vía, born in 1910, but in a little over a hundred years it has become the city's flag. It houses cinemas, theaters, large commercial areas and some of the most select stores in the capital, as well as unique buildings, among which the Metropolis and the Carrion, the Telephone Building or the Royal Oratory of the Knight of Grace stand out.
Recently it looks a new aspect, with more vegetation and innovative urban furniture, although the most important changes reside in the circulation. The new Gran Vía is freer from cars and pollution and is more friendly towards the pedestrian. New crosswalks have been created and sidewalks have been extended, so you will be able to enjoy more space during your walks through this main artery. In addition, in the section between the squares of Spain and Callao a bike lane has been created independent of the rest of the vehicles, in the upward direction.

The nearest metro stations are Opera, Callao, Sol and Santo Domingo, all just a few minutes walk. Sol is also Cercanías train station. Metro and suburban train are connected to Madrid Airport-
Being in the center of Madrid, there are numerous buses to access other areas of the city.

I will give you the directions you need from the city. I will help you with public transport and recommendations of restaurants, shops and shows. Count on me for what you need. I will leave maps of the city, transport and the most important points of interest.
You will find reading about the most relevant attractions of Madrid and other Spanish cities.
There is a world map in which guests leave proof of your country of origin and a map of the area so that you can locate the points of interest without problem.

Bright cheerful apt near Plaza Mayor
Check in was easy and delightful as we were met at apartment and given details about the property. Excellent location with five-minute walk to Puerta del Sol (with three Metro lines available) and three grocery stores within five-minutes walk. El Cortes Ingles is just around the corner with high-end groceries and ready-made meals in basement. Property was clean with well-equipped kitchen and all the utensils needed. No oven other than microwave, but we did not need it. Loved the coffee machine! Excellent shower with plenty of hot water. Comfortable bed and quiet at night, although you could hear neighbors during the daytime. While on one side of the bed, there was one power strip, we recommend an additional power strip on the other side of the bed for more charging options.
