Host profile image
Hello, I am an ex teacher, I took early retirement to spend time travelling, relaxing and spending more time with my family and friends. In reality I am just as busy; my husband Garry and I have been hard at work renovating the lovely old house we live in by the sea. This job is now complete so we are able to let it out to others for amazing holidays on the island. We love Captain Elliott's House, it is our 'big' house and we use it for family gatherings when our three daughters come with their partners and my mother also stays. The rest of the time Garry and I have bought a little cottage just a stone's throw away which we are now restoring and living in.
I still do the odd bit of supply teaching to keep my hand in and catch up with old friends. I enjoy socialising, cooking, quiet nights with Garry and gazing at the amazing view.
I tend to use airbnb when I am travelling, the locations are convenient and the rooms more characterful than hotels. It is great to have a local host's perspective about the area and I have always found them good value for money.
I don't really have a motto, I consider myself extremely fortunate to have the life I have and I try to remind myself of that often. I am, despite everything going on in the world, an optimist

Why they chose this property

I believe this house has possibly the best outside space in Fortuneswell. We have a huge sea facing decked area with comfortable sofas and a dining table and chairs for eight. There is a BBQ of course.
We have a small parking space - very rare round here.
We are within ten minutes walk of the beach, pubs, restaurants, shops and the sailing academy and marina.
The bedrooms are flexible, two have zip and link beds allowing them to be king size or twins.

What makes this property unique

I have left the fascinating history of this listed old house in the house manual. It is a wonder to me, I love to lie in bed or look out to sea and imagine the people using the rooms and the stories the house could tell.
