About this property

River House in Chimney Rock - Sleeps 18

The River House is a large home located in Chimney Rock and is within walking distance of Chimney Rock Village, NC, the Chimney Rock State Park entrance, and beautiful Lake Lure, NC, where Dirty Dancing was filmed. The River House sleeps 18. We are located on Main Street in the village of Chimney Rock and our home sits on the Rocky Broad River. We have 4 decks overlooking the river and plenty of seating for a large group to dine/grill outside overlooking the Rocky Broad River. The River House can host large groups/families of up to 18 people (children/babies, seniors, and all age groups are welcome!) with lots of room for everyone to relax and enjoy the Rocky Broad River (you can swim and fish in the river right behind the house and there are plenty of big rocks to play on and/or lay out in the sun!) and all the fun activities nearby (ziplining, horseback riding, rock climbing, and hiking in Chimney Rock State Park, just to name a few of the activities).

The River House is available to be rented out by a group/family and closed to the public when the whole house is rented. We keep the VRBO calender updated constantly so if the date shows available on this calender, it is available for your group to rent the whole house.

Great place for family time
We had a marvelous time in the beautiful house by the river. It is great location for multigenerational family vacation. The river is so soothing and the views from the house are lovely. The house has everything you need to have lovely meals in a big group and hanging time with family in the living room. Steve was super helpful with all pre planning and was always prompt with his responses. Thank you for sharing your house with us.

Great House in a Cute Town
Great large house with plenty of bedrooms directly on the river. The porch was great and we spent every morning and night on it. A direct walk to some restaurants and cute shops. The owner was fantastic to work with and was very nice! Enjoyed our stay!

Perfect location and view
This house is amazing! It was just my family of 4 and the property was perfect. It was fun examining all of the bedrooms. The River room only has an outside entrance, and after one night my youngest son moved inside. It would be a great room for someone who is looking for alone time. We spent the majority of our inside time at the kitchen counter/bar playing games and our outside time on the main level deck. The view is beyond description. The house is literally at the edge of the river. You can easily walk the rocks down to the river and fish. (We caught one!) Perfect spot to relax. The sound of the river babbling over the rocks is hypnotic. If you look up, you can see Chimney Rock. It is directly ahead of the house! We liked watching the flag being raised and lowered. The dedicated parking is important because the road was lined with cars. We walked the town every day (about 10 minute to the other side of town). You have to drive into Chimney Rock park and the entrance is about a 1 minute drive. The beginning of Lake Lure Village is maybe 5 minutes away. The location is great. I highly recommend staying here, but be warned that Chimney Rock restaurant hours are frustrating so plan dinners out in advance because you may not have an open place at times. Counter space at the house is very minimal so storing a lot of non-refrigerated food is tricky. We kept everything on the island in the kitchen and the dining room table.. it was an amazing vacation and we all would return in a heartbeat. (Kids are 16 and 18 and loved it)

About the host

Hosted by Steve Allen

Host profile image
Steve and Shelly Allen live in Charlotte, NC. They have lived there since 2008 with their 3 children. They met at the United States Air Force Academy and have been married for 30 years. Prior to living in Charlotte, they lived in Colorado Springs for 5 years after graduating from USAFA and then moved to Michigan for 17 years.

On our first visit to North Carolina back in February 2008, we visited the Lake Lure/Chimney Rock area. We immediately knew that we would spend time in this area. We have been back to visit/stay in many locations around Chimney Rock over the past few years.

Why they chose this property

You can't beat the view. From the deck of the home, you can look up and see the State Park or look down and see the Rocky Broad River. It is such a peaceful place. Plus, it is only a block from town so there is easy access to stores and restaurants.

What makes this property unique

Family time! The house is big enough to host 18 people....and there is SO much to do in the area. The beach at Lake Lure is just a few miles away. Asheville is a 25 minute drive. There is horseback riding, zip lining, boat rentals, hiking, antiquing, kayaking, tubing down the river, golfing and taking it easy!
