About this property

The Lavender Shack, Broome, Norfolk

The Lavender Shack is a beautiful bijou barn conversion offering splendid accommodation for two in the outskirts of pretty, rural Broome on the Norfolk/Suffolk border. With its gorgeous, open-plan, light and airy Scandinavian-style living space and bespoke, handmade furniture and original artwork, this is a luxury detached couple's retreat in the heart of the East Anglian countryside, only half an hour from Suffolk's Heritage Coast.

All on one level, The Lavender Shack has been lovingly restored and offers the height of luxury all year round. If your trip is during the summer, you will benefit from its folding doors spilling on to the spacious outdoors with woodland views and gorgeous flower garden - the owner is a florist and has her cutting garden on the farm - but, if you come during the winter months, you'll be able to hunker down in cosy contentment with the wood burning stove and underfloor heating in true Hygge fashion. It has a well-equipped kitchen offering all the mod-cons to attract foodies who love to cook on holiday, a super-king handmade bed and wall-mounted Smart television in the bedroom as well as in the open-plan living area and large power shower in the contemporary bathroom. Outside, there is parking and an electric car charging point.

The Lavender Shack, situated on the edge of the wonderful Waveney Valley and The Broads National Park is the perfect location to explore all that Norfolk and Suffolk has to offer. With scenic countryside on your doorstep for walking and boating, you are only a few minutes' drive away from paddle boarding and canoeing on the River Waveney; and from the traditional unspoilt market town of Bungay with its delicious delis, cafes and independent shops; only six miles from Beccles, gateway to the Norfolk Broads; and half an hour to Southwold and Suffolk's other numerous sandy beaches and stunning coastal towns and villages. Norfolk's medieval main city, Norwich, is only fifteen miles away, and the outstanding North Norfolk coast can be reached within the hour.

Super chic-cosy bolthole
The Lavender Shack is a super stylish yet cosy and practical bolt hole for two. It's very well equipped if you want to cook at home, with everything you could possibly need in the way of kitchen utensils and crockery / pans / bowls ... everything! We appreciated the superking bed and the large shower cubicle too. Being February, the weather wasn't exactly balmy, but the underfloor heating and cute woodburner meant that we were always toasty warm in the house. The outside space is large and, again, stylishly configured - I imagine it will be glorious to sit outside in the warmer months! The Shack is well located for exploring Norfolk and Suffolk; the delughtful town of Bungay is easily walkable and we also walked miles elsewhere - Norfolk County Council's website is excellent for downloadable and printable walking maps. Recommended for eating out are The Olive Tree in Cane Kirby; Suffolk Stonehouse for pizza on Bungay; and The Fleece (again in Bungay; very good food). We also walked to The Artichoke in Broome, which is minutes away and us a friendly local which does reasonably priced bar meals. All in all we had a very enjoyable week.

Lovely place to stay
Everything you would want in a quiet week away for 2. The Shack is a cosy little bolt hole very warm and comfortable. We did a lot of cooking and kitchen is well equipped for this. Enough wood for a good few days for log burner, comfortable bed, great shower. Very relaxing week.

A beautiful holiday home
We had a fantastic stay in the Lavender Shack. The location is semi rural but still close to civilisation. The living room and bedroom are ideal for two people and the bed really comfortable. The outside space is private with plenty of seating available. It was spotlessly clean. Our only problem was that it gets quite hot inside when it is sunny and with it being all on the ground floor we didn’t want to keep windows open at night. We would not hesitate to recommend the Lavender Shack to anyone looking for a peaceful place to stay. We were delighted to receive a bouquet of flowers from the owners before we set off on our journey home.
