About this property

Large barn conversion in a rural stud with a swimming pool - The Old Barn

The Old Barn is nestled in the extensive grounds of Dove House, a stunning example of a classic 14th Century timber-framed and plastered Suffolk Hall. As part of a centuries old working farm that has evolved into an equestrian stud, the barn was originally used for threshing and has been sympathetically converted to create a wonderfully rustic and cosy farmhouse. With great living space, views and easy access to the beautiful rolling countryside of the Brett Valley, The Old Barn is a brilliant base for exploring Suffolk or for simply relaxing and splashing around in a large swimming pool.
The Old Barn can be rented with the neighbouring Stable Cottage to provide accommodation for fourteen guests.
The Ground Floor
Entrance Hall – ample space for boots and hanging coats with access to the downstairs lavatory with hand basin.
Vaulted Reception and Dining Room – farmhouse style dining table and seating for eight along with a wicker sofa and armchairs next to French windows opening straight onto the swimming pool courtyard.
Sitting Room – Three comfortable sofas orientated around a 42” TV and huge inglenook fireplace with a log burner.
Kitchen – generously proportioned with flag stone flooring, round breakfast table with seating for four, range style cooker, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washer/dryer and serving hatch to the dining room.
The First Floor
Galleried Landing – extensive wooden bannisters connecting the bedrooms and overlooking the downstairs reception area.
Stallion Bedroom – Traditional king-sized brass bed, elegant bedside lamps, freestanding full length mirror and built in cupboards.
Family Bathroom – a bath with hand held shower, wash basin, bidet and lavatory.
Colt Bedroom – Three foot single bed with bedside table, chair and cloths hanging rail.
Thoroughbred Bedroom – Double bed, bedside table and cloths hanging rail and en-suite to the shower room.
Shower Room – Jack & Jill style (accessed via Thoroughbred and Foals bedrooms) with a walk-in shower, wash basin and lavatory.
Foals Bedroom – two three foot single beds, bedside tables, large wardrobe and en-suite to the shower room.
The Royal Box – an upstairs sitting room offering commanding views of the stud and valley beyond with an armchair and large sofa that converts into a bed for an eighth guest.
Outside
To the front is an enclosed terraced garden with flower beds, outdoor furniture and views across the stud. There are many paths around the lake and fields which are home to thoroughbred mares and a small herd of pedigree Hereford cattle. Guests can also walk along the picturesque river bank or head out on various public footpaths. Off the reception area is a large heated swimming pool shared with Stable Cottage in use from the beginning of May to Mid-September.

A brilliant week
12 members of our family stayed here and at stable cottage for a week and we all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday! We found the properties to be well equipped and spacious. The pool was a massive hit with everyone- both in the sunshine and the rain! The location was great, quiet and peaceful although within easy reach of many places of interest. We would definitely return and would highly recommend.

Beautiful location
An outstanding property in a beautiful location. The kids loved having farm animals nearby. House was stunning, and well-equipped. Only problem was the heating was not on when we arrived (late on 23 December) and the house was freezing. There were no extra blankets or duvets initially. It took until 24th pm to get this remedied. After that the rooms were very cosy, but the main atrium, where the dining room is, never really warmed up. We could not have had a meal there comfortably. Luckily we were celebrating Christmas elsewhere. We even brought our own extra heaters in, but the ceiling is simply too high for it to feel warm. Would be a five star experience were it not for this issue.

The Old Barn Ash Street Suffolk
We all had a great time during our stay at The Old Barn and Charlie at Idyllic Suffolk couldn’t have been more helpful, dealing with all our questions and sorting out the blinds in the bedroom for us. We would definitely recommend Idyllic Suffolk and will contact Charlie again when planning our next visit to Suffolk.
