This affluent area is known for its fine dining and shopping scenes, all concentrated on the "Golden Mile" in and around Ortega y Gasset Street. The area is also a draw for art lovers and collectors, thanks to the art galleries and auction houses located on Villanueva Street. Salamanca is also home to Spain's National Archaeological Museum and the Museo Lázaro Galdiano, a converted mansion that now displays works by luminaries such as Bosch and Goya.

Recoletos highlights include Spain's National Archaeological Museum, where you can explore the rich history of the region, and the Fernán Gómez Centro Cultural de la Villa, a celebrated arts complex. On the weekend, head to the vast Parque de Retiro for some nature or a soccer game with friends.
