About this property

5 bedrooms & 3 bathrooms - stunning south facing views "Wild Atlantic Way"

Bay House is a superb waterfront property, located on the "Wild Atlantic Way", in a truly spectacular and private setting. You can also see more reviews and information on our other sites.

Set in 1.7 Acres and approached by a half-mile private country lane, Bay House and gardens overlook Dunmanus Bay.

The views reach for over twenty miles, out into the Atlantic, over the Sheep's Head and Mizen peninsula and with a backdrop of the Beara peninsula.

We consider our location and stunning views of the sea and mountains to be some of the finest in West Cork.

Stone steps from the garden sea wall lead straight onto a slate/shingle beach. Many claim to be waterfront but we really are the real deal!

The friendly and lively village of Durrus is within walking distance (1.5km), where there are three pubs, a grocery shop, a post office and a charity shop.

The Mizen peninsula's sandy beaches, including Barley Cove’s beautiful Blue Flag beach, are just a short drive away and the Sheep's Head peninsula with the Goat's Path is famous for having many miles of scenic and rugged walks.

There are numerous marked walks on both peninsulas to suit all abilities.

The historic waterside and market town of Bantry, which boasts a brand new marina, is approximately 8 kilometres away.

Here you will find many more bars, restaurants and supermarkets, incl. Lidl and Supervalu. Super valu also offers an online delivery service; this is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays to Bay House, Durrus.

Within easy reach are: Bantry House, Mizen Head Lighthouse, Glengariff Bamboo Park, Schull Planetarium, Ewe Sculpture Garden, Waterfall Alpaca Farm in Drimoleague, Cape Clear Island, Fastnet Rock & Garnish Island.

Other activities in the area include: fishing, boat trips, kayaking, horse riding, scuba diving, cinema, whale watching, swimming & Spa, walking/hill walking, beaches and golf.

Bantry (Bantry Bay Golf Course) has an 18-hole championship course with some stunning scenery overlooking Bantry Bay. A little further down the road in Glengariff is another course, with 9 holes.

The house is spacious and very well equipped. The layout is perfect for families or groups sharing.

It has five beautifully appointed bedrooms, consisting of three double bedrooms rooms all looking out over the bay (each with a king-size bed), one has an en-suite bathroom with bath, power shower and WC.

There are two twin bedrooms (located at the rear of the house) and two further bathrooms, each with a separate bath, a power shower and WC.

All bed linen is pure cotton and all of the bedding and pillows are of top quality. We provide bath towels, hand towels and face cloths for all guests. Beach towels are also provided for each guest.

For the younger members of the family, there is a travel cot, a high chair, a "Stocke" dining chair and a baby bath.

The living area consists of a generous open plan sitting room/dining room & kitchen.

There is an American style fridge/freezer with ice machine, a blu ray 5.1 surround sound system, a 46" LED flat screen TV, an iPOD docking station, leather sofas, dining table, with benches & chairs to seat 10 and a log burner with glass at the sides as well as the front.

There is a separate utility room with a washing machine, a tumble dryer, a dishwasher, a microwave and an additional fridge/freezer.

The sun porch doubles as a children's playroom. Here they will find numerous toys and books for many age groups. There are also plenty of jigsaw puzzles and games to be found in the top of the cloak cupboard - and for the parents and grandparents too!

All of the living and sleeping accommodation is on one level. This is ideal when there are different generations of families. It can also be very useful to those who find it difficult with stairs and different ground levels.

There is a large table with benches on the outside terrace.

In the wooden shed you will find a charcoal barbecue (with tools) and plastic buckets & spades for the beach. There is also ample room in here to store your walking boots, wetsuits, body boards, dinghy and any other paraphernalia that goes with a wonderful holiday in West Cork.

In front of the house is almost an acre of lawn with direct access to a shingle and slate beach. Don't forget to fetch the buckets & spades from the shed for crab catching!

A 50% non-refundable deposit is required upon reservation. The balance is due six weeks before arrival, together with the refundable damage deposit of £250. We strongly recommend taking out travel insurance when making your booking. Wifi is free of charge and covers all areas of the house. Electricity & heating oil are also included but the charging of electric cars is not - please advise before arrival if you are bringing an electric car so that the meter can be read.
One small pet allowed - £75 per stay. Please can you let us know at the time of booking, many thanks.

The private country lane to Bay House may be unsuitable for some sports cars.

The owners, Chris and Debbie with their daughter Faith live in the adjoining property and can be contacted at any time before or during your stay.

Whether you are enjoying a break with family & friends in West Cork, a golfing trip to one of the many beautiful golf courses in Ireland or a painting holiday with some of the most spectacular scenery on our doorstep, Bay House is the perfect place for you!

Wonderful house in a perfect setting
Excellent holiday property. Lots of beds and bath and space inside and outside. Very well equipped kitchen, also everything you need in the house, books, toys, chairs, BBQ etc. Just as well, as you are miles from anywhere and will certainly need to cook and to entertain yourselves. The photos don't even do it justice, the views are even more beautiful and ever changing. Even our materialistic teenagers were mesmerised. Location is lovely if you like your peace and quiet and nature. Walking distance to Durrus which has one pub that does food and a basic shop. But Bantry is 15 mins and has all shops, supermarkets, nice little cinema and restaurants and takeaways. Easy drive to much of West Cork on picturesque little roads, very charming. We had a great holiday (8 of us, 2 families) and highly recommend. We didn't have perfect weather but pretty good and it didn't spoil our fun, a nice family film evening and a meal of spaghetti is a bonding experience for cousins who don't see each other very often.

Perfectly Relaxing with Spectacular View
Three generations had an absolute perfect stay at Bay House! The view of the bay that appears as you drove down the lane to the property is absolutely spectacular… then you get to look at it the entire time of your stay! Even a bit of rain couldn’t ruin the view. The home was very clean and comfortable and Debbie and Chris are the most gracious hosts!

Stunning views
Wow! Just a spectacular location in the sheltered bay near Durrus. We thoroughly enjoyed our all too short stay. Home comfortably slept 10 - a mix of adults and older kids. House had everything we needed - including charcoal BBQ. Kids loved playing on the lawn and exploring the bay when the tide was out. The views were just stunningly. We enjoyed eating sitting outside and having a coffee in the morning sitting on the sea wall listening to the peaceful sounds of nature on the bay. The small village of Durrus was good for an evening out, as was fishing for trout on Lake Boffina and a visit to the gardens of Bantry House. If you enjoy beaches, then Ballyrisode is a must along with hiking to Sheeps Head. The whole area of West Cork is just beautiful in the summer. Thanks to Debbie for great communication before and during our stay.

Superb!
We rented the bay house for a family reunion and it surpassed all our expectations. From the outset, Debbie was fantastic to deal with. We have small children who loved playing on the big lawn and seeing the sheep being fed up and close next door! The home is very well equipped to cater for large families. Very comfortable beds were a great bonus. We’d love to rerun some day!

Großes Haus in wunderbarer Lage
