Great area, but must love stairs.
As an American, I didn’t know the Dutch do not count the first floor and instead start counting the second floor as the first. So, when Aida said her apartment was on the 2nd floor, I walked up the stairs to the floor that had a large number 2 on it. I tried the code to open the door and it would not. I emailed her through the VRBO app (because Aida would not provide her cell phone number when I asked for it) and waited for her to respond. She did and gave me a different code to use. Voila, the door opened and I lugged my stuff into the apartment. Soon after, she called me on my cell phone number which I provided, and said, “you are in the wrong apartment. Go up another level and that’s the correct apartment.” So now it read # 3 on the staircase. The problem I encountered that I did not expect was that the hallway and stairs are many and very steep. I could not carry the full suitcase so I had to empty most of my clothing and things and carry the almost empty suitcase up the 54 stairs to her apartment. Then make several trips to go back down to the lobby and carry the clothing and items up the 54 stairs to the apartment. This was exhausting. When I told Aida that I wasn’t aware there would be so many stairs she said, “you should have checked first before booking.” So she basically said it’s my own fault for not realizing apartments have such steep and narrow and many stairs. So, I’m writing this review so others who book will know this in advance.
