About this property

Victoria Cottage by Whitstable Seaside

Victoria Cottage is a delightful terraced cottage, formerly half of The Sovereign public house, in pretty Victoria Street, is situated in the heart of the conservation area of Whitstable and a minutes walk to the shops.
The Sovereign pub was originally a Georgian dwelling house with stables, outhouses and small orchard at the rear. It became a beer-house in 1835. The property was called The Sovereign after the currency unit of the time. The Sovereign was the last public house of that name in Kent to be converted back to private use and it became two cottages in 2003. This comfortable, welcoming cottage, traditionally brick built with a pretty slate roof, is cosy in winter and cool and airy in summer. It has a twin attic room and an en-suite double bedroom, a large family bathroom, a fully equipped modern kitchen and a long living room (with double sofa bed) and dining room plus a high chair. The pretty sunny garden, sheltered aspect makes it a delightful place for alfresco dining with a BBQ area or just simply relaxing in the sun.

This family home is perfect for parking up the car in the rear parking space, strolling for a couple of minutes to the beach, rolling up your trousers and dipping your feet in the cool waters or skimming stones between the groins. Before reaching the shore you will pass through the town with its beautiful shops, tempting eateries and many bars. Enjoy a gentle bike ride along the promenade towards Tankerton's life-guarded beach and stop off to walk the mile street at low tide.

There is free street parking on the road and surrounding roads. The nearest paid parking is Victoria Street car park. You can view the charges on the Canterbury City Council website. Parking can be limited in the high season but once you have parked up, you are close enough to walk into town, beach, shops etc.
You can also visit the 'Just Park' website to find out where to park in Whitstable.

There are frequent busses running from Whitstable to Herne Bay and Canterbury area's. The trains from Whitstable station will take you to Ramsgate or further afield to London. There are also Taxi services available for short fares or airport runs. The nearest airport is in London and the Ferry port is in Dover.

Lovely property and great location
We had a lovely week in Whistable staying at this property. Beds were comfortable and the property was lovely and clean. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The car parking space was perfect for us and it was a great bonus as parking is difficult on surrounding streets and public car parks. The court yard garden was lovely and peaceful. We were close to the Main Street for all the local independent food and shopping. The butcher’s, Alan R Long, was excellent value for money and really delicious meat for our BBQ’s. The beach was close by for us to go crabbing and relax in the sunshine. We enjoyed the walk out to Tankerton and back. Our day out to Chatham Historic Navel museum was expensive, but worth the visit. Ice cream opportunities were plentiful throughout Whistable and the return walk from Tankerton.

Anniversary Break
The property was in a great location and was ideal for our needs with a lovely outside area that gets the sun for breakfast and an evening drink. It was spotlessly clean and the wine and nibbles were much appreciated. The only slight downside is I don't think the size of the parking space was highlighted enough as it is only suitable for quite a small car. We were lucky as the neighbours were not there for our stay so we could use it.. Having said that, I would thoroughly recomend the property. We have stayed in quite a few holiday properties and this would definitely be in the best 3. G & C - STAMFORD

Lovely homely cottage located in ideal spot
If considering a stay in Whitstable, I highly recommend Victoria Cottage. Ideally located just behind the harbour end of the High Street, it is in easy walk of local independent restaurants. The Cottage is homely and welcoming and Sarah the host, appears to have pre-empted any utensil/pot and pan or casserole requirements should you choose to cook. The microwave is high power so if ‘chicken ping’ or similar is your thing, you’ll get to eat quickly. The double bed in the main bedroom is comfortable and there is an en-suite facility. The main bathroom is spacious and has a shower above the bath that is deightfully efficient. There is an attic bedroom with 2 single beds but we did not need to use this. Having looked it is thoughtfully set out and ideal for children. The TV is not a smart TV but we brought along our Firestick and was able to use that in the USB port. Sarah provides a mini tourism information basket with flyers of local attractions and things to do in the surrounding district. Personally recommend Wingham Wildlife Park which is family run, well maintained, has great children play areas and animals that come up close and seem to like to interact with folk. Local info: Consider a mid-week break if you want to eat at Pearson’s. Tuesday is fish and chips for £7.50 plus they have live music on a Tuesday. You’d need to plan and book in advance for Pearson’s as they do get fully booked even on days without a special price. The Rock Lodge, open Thursday to Sunday, has choice of formal and more expensive dining upstairs with casual dining and live music downstairs. Rock around the Clock, open for all meals and located in an old bank on the High Street. You can eat in a vault. If you want to use a chain restaurant then there is a Zizzi and also a Prezzo in Whitstable. The Peter Cushing is a Wetherspoon at the bottom end of town and is unlike any of that chain I have been in before, it is clean, well-kept and pleasant to use. Whitstable Larger is sold here at a very competitive price!

Great Christmas Break!
We had a great time, excellent location, only a few minutes walk from the high street, decorated for Christmas and parking on site and bottle of fizz on arrival was an added bonus. Only thing that would’ve made it perfect, was a lock on the gate in working order (gate has dropped so unable to use) so we felt it was secure enough letting the dogs out unsupervised. All in all a great Christmas break. Thank you!
