Very peacefully situated within the hamlet of Glenbuchat, just inside the Cairngorms National Park, this wonderful property is ideal for those looking for peace and quiet away from the stresses of life. The cottage is surrounded by stunning scenery with a sense of remoteness, and yet within 5 miles of the nearest shop at Strathdon. Inside, comfort is a priority, with crisp bedding and pocket sprung mattresses in the bedrooms. The tastefully furnished living room, with its Hwam Danish wood burner, is lovely to sit in after a long day out walking, looking out onto amazing scenery. The spacious garden on the side of the wooded hillside hosts views of the surrounding Ladder hills and Ben Newe to the south east. This is the perfect retreat for walker and lovers of wildlife.
If you can prise yourselves away from the immediate locality, there are some spectacular routes to drive and explore. A short but scenic drive takes you over the high road from Cockbridge to Tomintoul, via the slopes of the Lecht passing Corgarff Castle on the way. Very popular in winter for skiing, in summer you are rewarded with stunning views over the landscape. To the south east is Royal Deeside, home to many fine castles, including Balmoral Castle and several National Trust for Scotland properties, as well as attractive villages with their own charms including Ballater, Aboyne and Braemar. In late summer, the world-famous Braemar Gathering and Highland Games are well worth a visit and for those who enjoy mountain sports, there are exceptional opportunities as many of the finest ’Munros’ (mountains over 3000ft) are found here. This is in a peaceful part of the Cairngorms National Park, yet accessible to other parts of the park and to a diverse range of scenic areas on the east coast and Moray Firth coast. Important Conditions for stays during winter months (November to April):
The Cottage is at an elevated hillside situation (330m above sea level) about 300 metres from the public road along a private, shared tarred single track road which is steep in places. In wintry conditions (which often occur at this altitude) between November and March (sometimes into early April), whilst the nearby public road is usually kept relatively clear of snow, the private road is liable to icing and snow cover. In such circumstances, it can be very difficult or impossible to drive up or down the private road section (even if the vehicle has 4 wheel drive and winter grade tyres). In such circumstances, guests should not attempt to drive up section of the private road from the public road and should park their vehicle in a public car park at Glenbuchat Hall near to the beginning of the private road. To this extent, the owners do not guarantee that it will always be possible to drive up to the Cottage. If you proceed with a booking in these months, you must accept these conditions. The owners will try and give prior notice of such conditions. If, after the commencement of your stay, the weather forecast anticipates ice and snow to arrive, you must take steps to take your vehicle down the private road before the arrival of such an event. In wintry weather, depending upon the severity and the extent to which it affects access to and from the Cottage, the owners may need to end the contract for provision of accommodation at the Cottage.
