About this property
Host & Stay | Rafters at Lulworth Cove
Summary:
The Rafters at Lulworth Cove is a private, luxury retreat on the dramatic Jurassic Coast of England. It is an exclusive property perfect for a large family or group of friends; whatever the occasion. The whole property has been beautifully designed and features large indoor spaces; perfect for entertaining, an expertly designed outdoor area and a heated indoor swimming pool.
Plan your holiday escape to Lulworth Cove in Dorset and unwind at this stunning 10-bedroom thatched holiday home.
The Space:
The Rafters has recently been fully rebuilt to the highest standard with no expense spared to create a truly unique home away from home. When designing the house, all of the various possible needs of guests were considered and incorporated; creating an inviting space that offered a balance of traditional and modern.
The Rafters became a coastal retreat that was consistent with the heritage of the local area but was also equipped with all state-of-the-art amenities and a luxury finish.
All ten ensuite bedrooms have super-king beds, built-in wardrobes and a walk-in shower area, with two of the ensuites also having a freestanding bathtub. The entire house and detached garage boast underfloor heating; with each bedroom and bathroom having individual temperature controls to suit anyone and everyone’s preferences.
The communal areas can easily accommodate at least 20 guests. The entire ground floor is a welcoming, open plan space. The beautiful views of the Jurassic Coast can be enjoyed from anywhere in the room; from dining room to copper-topped bar to living room and open log fire.
If you choose to remain indoors for the day, the options for the ground floor are endless. Relax in the snug with your feet up and take in the glorious views from the bay window; or cosy up by the real log fire to read a book of your choice from the second-floor library; or just socialise in the lounge in one of the super comfy couches.
Make sure to take a seat at the bar and enjoy a few cocktails whilst you wait for dinner to be prepared. Whether you hire in a private chef or brave the cooking yourself, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to the well-equipped chef-style kitchen. It has a double electric hob, two ovens, a grill/microwave, two large dishwashers, two American-sized refrigerators, two sinks, two freezer drawers, ample storage and every cooking tool you would need to rustle up a delicious gourmet meal for 20 people.
Outside there are two large terraces overlooking the manicured meadow and Lulworth Cove. The upper terrace can host all guests in the sunshine and with plenty of seating and shade. Behind the house is a large gas barbecue with the propane tanks provided if you prefer to grill your outdoor feast. The lower terrace that leads out from the indoor pool is perfect for private sun lounging. The entire property is enclosed with privacy fencing, making the house a secluded hideaway.
Should the weather not be on your side, the property could easily keep you entertained. The Rafters has a fully equipped cinema room with Blu-Ray, Apple TV, Netflix, Amazon TV and Smart TV.
There is a games room in the garage that that has a ping-pong table, card table, dartboard, large TV, music speakers, board games and jigsaw puzzles.
Care for a swim? The indoor saline pool has been designed to perfection; heated and big enough to host a rather large group with a paddling area for the young ones if the adults just want to watch and relax.
The house is perfect for large families, multiple families, yoga groups, memorable celebrations or any other excuse you need to treat yourself to a coastal luxury getaway with five-star amenities and an idyllic coast at your fingertips.
Guest Access:
Guests have access to the full property. The keys to Rafters at the Lulworth Cove are accessed via a key safe box, and full details will be provided prior to check in.
Private on-site parking is available for up to five vehicles. Public car parking can also be found a short walk away.
The Neighborhood:
Lulworth Cove, a unique scallop shaped cove on the Jurassic Coast, was formed around 10,000 years ago by the powerful sea. The surrounding land is rich with fossils, natural beauty and even has its own species of butterflies called the 'Lulworth Skipper'. The Jurassic Coast runs from Orcombe Point in Exmouth to Old Harry Rocks in Swanage and was granted World Heritage Site status by UNESCO in 2001.
The area continues to be extremely popular for hikers, fossil hunters, mountain bikers, swimmers, boaters and surfers. The walk down to the cove is filled with all sorts of local merchants: ice cream shops, pubs, bakeries and a very well-known fishmonger.
As busy and popular as the cove gets, the idyllic landscape remains an unscathed paradise and a hidden gem. The dramatic coastline continues throughout the surrounding areas-places like Durdle Door, Kimmeridge, Stair Hole and Hambury Tout are just a few of the landmarks within walking distance along the south coast path of the Jurassic Coast.
West Lulworth, just a five-minute walk from the house, is a picturesque Dorset fishing village with thatched cottages dating back over 400 years – interestingly it used to be a smugglers haunt, being only minutes away from the coastline. Full of history and beauty, it is a great village to visit and have a walk around.
East Lulworth is only a seven-minute drive from the house and is a very quaint village with some of the most charming cottages in the county. The village is home to the famous Lulworth Castle and Park. There is so much to explore with the beautiful grounds and woodland walks, tearooms and entrance to the partly restored castle.
Wareham and Wool are the local bustling towns with the amenities if you need food markets or nice restaurants, and both just a short drive away.
Getting Around:
The nearest train station is located in Wareham where there are regular routes to Basingstoke, Bournemouth, Dorchester, Eastleigh, London, Poole, Southampton, Weymouth, Winchester and Woking.
Two bus routes can be found operating at Lulworth Cove. Hop on the 31 to visit Wool, or take a trip on the X54 to take in the sights of Weymouth and Poole.
The nearest airport is located in Southampton, 54 miles away from Lulworth Cove.
