Enjoy the authentic Costa Rican experience in a nice house ideal for a couple or small family. The private property is surrounded by rolling green hills and coffee farms and populated with plenty of wildlife, located just outside of Atenas, 45 minutes from San José International Airport and an hour to the closest beach.
Two minutes up the road is my house, where you can take in breathtaking views right from the pool and enjoy the best climate in the world.
The space
Casa Margarita has two bedrooms, one with a queen-sized bed and one with a double/full-sized bed, a bathroom with a shower, a fully-equipped kitchen and comfortable, airy living space, and Wi-Fi so you can work from home-away-from-home. Upon arrival, you will find the breakfast bar stocked with coffee, wine, and beer, as well as fresh eggs, bread, and fruit for breakfast.
There is also a porch, where you can take in gorgeous views of the mountains, ocean, rolling hills, and coffee plants, as well as terrific sunsets. In addition to the town of Atenas boasting the title of World’s Best Climate according to National Geographic, our property was recently named by a local TV anchor as “the best place in all of Costa Rica to watch the sunset”. You also have the opportunity to spot a variety of animals, including white-faced monkeys, red foxes, iguanas, and several species of bird such as toucans, grey-headed chachalacas, motmots, flycatchers, caracaras, tanagers, and hummingbirds.
Hosts Margarita and Ralph live just up the road, where you will have full access to our pool as well as well to interact with our multi-age, bilingual family .
If your stay at Casa Margarita is just the beginning of your Costa Rican adventure, we are more than happy to recommend and arrange a taxi from the airport. We are also happy to recommend favourite restaurants and attractions, and we even have a car available to rent for $50/day for local excursions. Furthermore, we offer a unique, hands-on coffee experience from mid-November to the end of December, where guests are invited to join in the coffee-making process, from berry picking to coffee tasting, all while learning what goes into an excellent cup of coffee. If you're coming to Costa Rica to relax, we also have massage treatments available on our property.
Other details to know
Popular destinations from Atenas include the municipal forest, which is just across the street, Las Minas natural waterfalls and swimming pools, the Pacific Ocean, and the Poas Volcano.
Just 90 minutes in one direction is the beach town of Jaco, where you can surf, rent ATVs, relax on the beach, or check out the local bars. On the way there, you will cross the famous crocodile bridge, and you can stop off for Jose's Crocodile River Tour, which is truly unlike any other. Thrill seekers can also zip-line near Jaco.
In the other direction, a 90 minute drive will take you to Poas Volcano National Park. On the way, you can visit Hacienda Alsacia, a coffee farm owned by Starbucks, as well as the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, where you can visit the jungle zoo before enjoying a waterfall hike.
Costa Rica has two seasons: the rainy season and the dry season! Although we get plenty of rain from May to December, it doesn’t rain all the time and it is always warm (even the rain is warm!). Our typical rainy season days are generally clear and sunny in the morning, clouding up in mid-morning and raining in the afternoon. The temperatures year around are lovely, with a low of 65 and a high of 85 F degrees.
