About this property

15th-century doctor’s surgery, now renovated as a studio in the heart of Bodmin

Step into history and unwind in comfort at The Surgery — a unique, beautifully renovated studio space adjoined to a 15th-century property in the heart of Bodmin. Once the town’s original doctor’s surgery, this charming retreat has been in the same family since the 1700s and is filled with character, from heritage print work to modern touches.

Ideal for couples or solo travellers, The Surgery is a compact yet cleverly designed open-plan space. It has recently been stylishly renovated and includes a brand new comfy sofa bed and wood burner – ideal for cosy evenings in. A fully equipped kitchen including air fryer are available as well as a new modern bathroom with shower that has also recently been installed. Should more than two guests wish to stay, there is a mezzanine sleeping loft housing a double bed, which is accessed via a secure ladder.

A perfect quiet sun trap awaits guests outside, which is reached via a side gate and has a bistro table and chairs as well as a large sofa to relax in and sip a morning coffee.

Whether you’re exploring Cornwall’s coast or soaking up Bodmin’s history, The Surgery offers a snug, stylish base to rest and recharge.

We, The Cornish Holiday Company, have much pleasure in hosting this delightful property for the owners. Being a locally based company we are always on hand should guests require anything during their stay.

Why they chose this property

Bodmin is a great base for discovering Cornwall as it is positioned between the north and south coasts. The dramatic north coast is a surfers paradise whilst the sub tropical south coast has calmer seas and very different scenery. For any cycling enthusiasts or walkers, the Camel Trail path is nearby and is idyllic for exploring some stunning scenery and wildlife. Depending on how energetic you are feeling, you can follow the trail to Wadebridge which is the next town and has an abundance of shops, eateries and watering holes. While on route the Camel trail passes The Camel Valley Vineyard and here you can sample award winning wines whilst capturing the breathtaking scenery on a summer's afternoon. The trail also continues from Wadebridge to the vibrant north Cornwall fishing port of Padstow, the home of many famous restaurants.

The ancient town of Bodmin has many attractions including the Bodmin and Wenford Steam Railway, which leaves the old town station and chugs down the valley to the mainline branch, what a way to tour the county. If you are looking for some local Cornish history, the newly renovated Bodmin Jail is full of it. The jail was built in 1779 and, after years of sitting derelict, it has recently been transformed into a luxurious hotel with a museum, restaurant and champagne bar. The surrounding Bodmin Moor is where you can find Jamaica Inn, immortalised in Daphne Du Maurier’s book of the same name. The stunning National Trust property of Lanhydrock House is close by and has many activities throughout the year.
