Enjoy a peaceful stay in your own studio apartment on our family farm right in the heart of the winelands between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek. Views are spectacular and the infinity pool is welcoming you on the warm summer days. Enjoy daily walks between peach, citrus, pepper trees and lavender, stroll along the river, find shade in our fruit orchards and enjoy breathtaking views from our property. You can explore the variety of restaurants, wineries and thousands of hiking and mountainbike paths just outside our door. Perfect for families, couple get aways and friends. Villa Verde, our family farm, was founded in 2025 by Lonnie and Mathew Castle. The couple has lived together with their three kids in Denmark for 15 years and has recently moved back to South Africa.
Mathew is South African and has a long term love relationship with the local area where he has been part of the wine industry for many years as a viticulturist (wine farmer). His big passion in life is to constantly explore and nurture nature in the most sensitive and caring way. He loves trees and his aim is to create their own food garden and fruit forest.
Lonnie is Danish and has spent most of her years in Copenhagen creating concepts and building top brands in the Danish interior and fashion industry. She loves to entertain and is always busy creating art exhibitions, festivals, events and dinners.
Both are passionately involved in the art of looking after mother earth and creating an inclusive environment for people to feel welcome, get inspired
from and involved in.

Why they chose this property
The Banhoek valley is our favourite valley in the world. Mathew has worked in the wine industry for many years and his soul and heart belongs to this area. The dream of creating a permaculture farm, a gallery and a guesthouse came to live when we found this property with views for days. The area is surrounded by incredible nature and there is easy access to the best restaurants and wine farms in the country.
What makes this property unique
Our property has incredible views and living on a mountain means we are surrounded by nature - yet we have easy access to the best restaurants, village life and wineries in South Africa. We are litteraly en route between Franschhoek and Stellenbosch with acces to winebars, galleries, markets, café´s and bakeries. We are running the place as a family farm, we live here ourselves too and are deeply involved with the every day live on the farm, which means more attention to our guests who hopefully will feel welcome and at home on our farm from the moment they step in to our property.
