For you early risers, start the day with a fresh pot of coffee and step out onto the deck. Sit, sip, and wait… for a silhouette of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to emerge as the sun peeks over the horizon. By the time you catch your breath, the rest of the family will be awake and hungry. Not a problem. Whip up some eggs, bacon, and pancakes in the fully stocked kitchen. Don’t feel like cooking? Stop by Diamond Shoals for breakfast, or the Orange Blossom Cafe for some sweet pastries.
Then come the tough decisions. You could head out for a day of kayaking on the sound, catch a ferry ride to Ocracoke Island, climb the tallest lighthouse in North America… or just march over the dunes for a sun-soaked day at the beach. The warm, calm waters of the Gulf Stream hug the south facing sands, making Frisco beaches very family friendly. And the best part is, situated at the edge of National Seashore, you have direct access to the emptiest section of oceanfront. Don’t forget to swing by Frisco Rod & Gun to grab a fishing license and bait. With some of the best surf fishing in the Outer Banks, you will definitely want to test your luck. Those with 4-wheel drive can pick up an off-road permit for the week, or you can rent a Jeep by the day. Ramp 49 is a quarter mile up the road.
As the day winds down, walk back to the house, take your fancy shampoo and conditioner downstairs, and rinse the day away in the fully enclosed outdoor shower. Utterly divine! You’ll never want to shower inside again. Choices for dinner are endless. From the ultra-swanky Inn at Pamlico, to the casual local fare at Quarterdeck (celebrating their 40th year!), you can’t go wrong. Of course you could always grill up your own surf and turf on the charcoal grill downstairs. Just don’t waste any time loading up that dishwasher... you'll want to get out to the back deck in time to witness the sun dip into the sound, painting a portrait in the sky that could make Bob Ross blush.
When dusk rolls in, so does the wild life. Flocks of geese swim in the pond and scores of deer graze through the field. Finally, when night takes over, the stars begin to shine. You might think you’ve seen a starry night sky before, but not like this. Turn off the deck lights, the inside lights, strip down, and slink into the hot tub. Underneath 50 square miles of uninhabited United States National Seashore, cradled by the Pamlico Sound on one side and Atlantic Ocean on the other, you will be able to see every star in the Milky Way. The lightning bugs in the meadow below try their darnedest to twinkle brighter than the stars above. All of this accompanied by a symphony of frogs chirping, wind whistling, and waves crashing. Not until you reach up to start the jets again for the fifth time, do you realize you’ve been basking in bubbly bliss for over an hour. It’s time to dry off and slip into your cozy bed under the fresh provided linens. Close your eyes and dream about what the next 6 days will bring…
