I am English/Portuguese. I have been living in Portugal most of my life. I love to hike. Favourate places- Kashmir, Atlas mountains and Sintra mountains in Portugal. My passions are travel and hospitality, the Opera, good books, and chocolate :)
Vicky Swain purchased this Villa in 1996
Why Vicky Swain chose Municipality of Cascais
I fell in love with Cascais as a child while visiting family and purchased this home in 1996. Cascais is a slower pace than Lisbon, yet only 30 minutes away on the train. I love the fact that the house is 10 minutes walk in to town, yet has a lovely garden and pool space with good privacy.
What makes this Villa unique
I love the windows in this home. Casa Catarina has sun shine all day streaming in. I chose this house as the street is quiet being a one way street. The house is situated in the center away from the road. I fell in love with the arched ivy entrance over the gate ways, which gives you a cottage feel. All my guests have commented on the comfort and feel good atmosphere of Casa Catarina. So far lots of Happy guests, and I look forward to greeting many more. See you soon! x Vicky .

Extremely well appointed house. No need to buy dishwasher tablets, washing machine powder or toilet rolls as they were all provided. Superbly equipped kitchen and two great long tables outside and one inside to eat family meals...helped by a great supermarket with fresh fish counter only 5 minutes walk away. Lovely garden with sunloungers and great little pool which we enjoyed. 15 minuits rather drab walk into town but a nice little seaside town with great connection via railway to Lisbon. (The sea was unpleasantly cold this September....very few people were attempting a swim !) We took an Uber taxi to Sintra and it only cost 12 euro and took twenty minutes. Well worth doing.
Vicky ‘s place is absolutely wonderful - never stayed in such a well equipped villa .
I would definitely recommend this amazing well equipped villa - 3 couples had a week in Cascais we could not have wished for anything better all had their own bathroom which is an unusual find - in a lovely residential area but within easy distance of the centre- have to say UBER are a god send when you have had an exhausting day on the beach
Came in June last year seemed busy in Sept no idea why maybe the weather as up until our arrival they had had a great summer
Vicky was very approachable and replied immediately to any of our questions - her recommendations of places / restaurants were also great
Would definitely return - it was paradise
Really great villa
The kitchen was really well equipped, the beds were really comfortable, the pool was bigger then it seemed in the photos and a lovely terrace in the garden.
We also loved the short walk into town and short hop on a train to Lisbon . I would definitely recommend Vickys house and the area
Perfect family holiday villa
We loved our stay, the villa is wonderful, so well equipped for our family of 6. The garden, pool and terrace provided great spaces to relax and the villa inside is beautiful, we loved the art too! Cascais is lively with good beaches, excellent Weds market. Lisbon is in short reach for day trips and we recommend Carcavelos beach just a couple of stops on the train line. Thanks, Vicky for being a perfect host and for a fantastic holiday!
Fabulous stay at Casa Catarina
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa was very clean well appointed and ideally suitable for a family of 3 adult couples. We especially liked the large garden and pool area.
Vicky was very accommodating and replied to emails promptly. Cascais is a lovely town with plenty of nice restaurants & shops and only a 30 minute train journey from Lisbon. Yes we would recommend & would return.
Cascais is located just 25 km west of Lisbon (25 mins from Airport)along a spectacular coast which begins at the Tagus estuary and takes you to the westernmost point of Europe - Cabo da Roca. Cascais has beaches, cafés, pubs and shops. There is a promenade along the water with beach coves and sunny cafés. Casa da Guia nearby, overlooks the ocean with restaurants and cafés set in the grounds of the old manor house with stylish shops and boutiques. Sintra also nearby is a dramatically beautiful mountain village with castles to explore like Quinta da Regaleira as well as cafés and shops. On the North side of Sintra a beautiful coastal road takes you to the lighthouse at Cabo da Roca the most western point of Europe, Praia Adraga, Azenhas do Mar.
There are 2 free rental bike stands down in Cascais at the train station and at Casa da Guia. Just leave some identification and take them for the whole day. Ride along the ocean cliffs on the walk/bike path.
Other Activities: rollerblading or cycling along seafront on newly built 10 km track...FREE BICYCLE USE FROM SEVERAL CENTRES IN CASCAIS (10 MINUTE WALK)
