Okaloosa Island is the perfect place to enjoy the sugar-white sands and crystal blue waters of the Gulf. The island is close to everything you need--grocery stores, movie theaters, shopping malls, marinas, and more. We have several restaurants to which you can walk or take a very short drive.
Destin is only six miles away, so you can go into the 'big city' any time. But the beaches on Okaloosa Island are much less crowded because all condo complexes are limited to six floors. We have no high-rises, where too many people are trying to share a small area of beach.
You also have the option of going the short distance into Ft Walton. There is a Publix grocery store less than a mile from the condo, and there are plenty of shopping and restaurant options without having to go into Destin.
Very close by, there are many options for you. You can go paddleboarding or use a kayak right from our beach. Or you can rent a jet ski or pontoon behind Fudpuckers very close by, or drive to the Destin Harbor (six miles) and rent them there. From the harbor, you can hop aboard a fishing boat and bring back some fish, then have a local restaurant cook your catch! You can also book a parasailing adventure at the harbor. Just down the road, you can try windsurfing, or just park your car and watch others try it.
Destin Harbor offers boutique shopping and several restaurants, including a sprawling Margaritaville, which opened last year. Almost every restaurant offers live music at different times. The harbor also has weekly fireworks and live music during the summer months. Be sure to check their website for more information.
The Gulfarium, which is just down the beach, is a fun place to see marine nature up close and personal. Watch dolphin and sea lion shows, enjoy the shallow pool full of small sea creatures that you can touch, laugh at the antics of the otters, and see gators, turtles, penguins, and many more sea and beach creatures. The Gulfarium is an affordable outing for all ages. You can go in the morning, leave for lunch at one of the beachside restaurants next door, and then go back for the afternoon.
Don't forget, there is also the option of lounging under a beach umbrella and doing nothing but enjoying the breeze and the gentle break of the waves. Enjoy a book, a nap, a stroll down the beach, or a salty and refreshing swim.
We hope you will come and experience Okaloosa Island this year! We offer the best, most well-furnished condo at Azure! You will walk in the door and be delighted, we promise!
About Terri DeFoor
We are D. Jay and Terri DeFoor from Middle Georgia. We live about five hours away from our Okaloosa Condo. We have been married since 1977, and have three grown children.
Terri DeFoor purchased this condo in 2007
Why Terri DeFoor chose Okaloosa Island
We bought our Azure condo for our 30th wedding anniversary in 2007. We toured several beautiful beach condos in the Destin and Fort Walton Beach area, and settled on this brand new property because we fell in love with its beauty and its wonderful location. We are close enough to Destin for dining and shopping there, but Okaloosa offers everything you need if you don't want to fight the summer traffic. We have great places to eat, the fishing pier, convenient shopping, jet ski and pontoon rentals close by. We are within walking distance to the Gulfarium, a great place to see dolphin, sea lions, and other sea creatures up close. We had great fun working with a local decorator to coordinate furniture, decor, custom window treatments and bedding, and paint. I spent a couple of days creating the floral arrangements, which was a lot of fun. We continue to update furnishings and keep everything in tip-top shape. 2018 is our tenth rental season, and we continue to have nothing but positive comments from our guests. This spring (2016), we will be painting walls and trim, re-doing floral arrangements, and a few more updates to keep everything fresh and wonderful! So we hope you'll come check us out in 2016!
What makes this condo unique
We love eating at Old Bay Steamer just across the street, and High Tide has the best steamed oysters and seafood gumbo. We have walked down the beach to eat at Floyd's Shrimp House next to the pier, and we have ordered Italian fare from Pranzo's close by. Terri and Shelley (our daughter) finally made it to the Gulfarium, which is just down the beach. We had a great afternoon of watching the dolphins, seals, and sea lions. We took some great photos. I would recommend it for a nice relaxing outing. There isn't much offered in the way of food, but you can have your hand stamped, walk next door to eat, and go back in. For our guests, we include two beach set-ups, which is four chairs and two umbrellas provided daily from March 1 to October 31 every year. We also include free local and domestic long distance land phone, free WIFI and wired internet, Bose stereo system, Bluetooth capable, with IPod dock in the living/dining area, beautiful decor, great bedding, roomy balcony with plenty of room for dining and lounging.
