But Belize boasts a mighty fine selection of their own ancient mayan ruins! in fact, Xunantunich is a horse ride away or 30 minute car trip from this delightful cottage with its wonderful birdwatching deck with hammock. Or take an excursion to the coast to see the second largest barrier reef IN THE WORLD!
To get to the mayan ruins nearby a hand cranked ferry will shuttle your car or horse over the Mopan River through a jungle scenic drive to the site. Monkeys are commonly seen frequenting the trees around the temples. Buy some Mayan rugs or carved animal head masks at the shops there. Or a hammock! Exchange the cold winter air for warm tropical breezes and stay til your heart's content, a month to several months! Spotted recently on the cottage property; keel billed toucans, aracari, Montezuma Oropendola, hooded warbler, little hermit hummingbird, rufous tailed hummingbird, parrots, parakeets, mot mot, trogons and so much more. Loving the Jungles of Belize! So much to see and do! Do some research online to see all the fabulous destinations in this small, English speaking country. You will fall in love with it!

Why they chose this property

This house is eco-friendly in every way! Unlike nearby areas this house is totally off grid with well water and solar power! Unlike Florida, there are no 4-10 lane highways. I know of One traffic light in the country. This is a non smoking property and no pesticides or chemicals are used. No air conditioning is needed because the nights are generally cool and huge shade trees surround the property shading the deck and house. There is a small bar/restaurant nearby and Chaa Creek resort is a 3 minute drive with an excellent bar and restaurant. This house has a complete kitchen should you wish to try the local market foods, some quite exotic! The river is a short walk away and tubing and kayaking are available. A tour company we utilize has many exciting trips as do most other tour groups in town. Excursions to Tikal in Guatemala is just one spot to explore! Horses are available to rent with a guide who will take you to our Maya ancient sites, an awesome way to get there. A ferry will take you and your car/horse across the beautiful Mopan River to the site. The house is very comfy and we encourage snowbirds to try Belize instead of Florida for a change! You may want to retire here!

What makes this property unique

Swing in your hammock as you watch the toucans munch on your left- over banana on the railing! Watch the myriad stars, yes, you can actually see stars here! you can even see the milky way during certain months, very exciting. Tour the famous gardens next door at your leisure, yes, admittance is included with your stay! The birdwatching is fabulous there as no chemicals are used and there are plenty of insects and fruits for hummingbirds, toucans, trogons, kiskadees, mot mots and much more. You can book a bird guide for an hour or a day who is very knowledgeable and has a spotting scope and a vehicle to drive you to different destinations. But right here you will see more birds that you could ever imagine! Watch the parrots come soaring in every afternoon for the evening. There is so much more I simply cannot get it all in here!
