Rothley Lodge is a magnificent country period home set within 6 acres of parkland with mature woods, duck flight pond and lawned gardens with picturesque woodland paths leading down to the properties own river where quiet walks or fishing can be enjoyed.

On the edge of the Northumberland National Park, Rothley Lodge was built in Victorian times as the shooting lodge for Wallington Hall (National Trust - 4 miles away). Rothley Lodge has an abundance of character and charm, with very high standards including beautiful period furnishings to add to your country house holiday experience. Rothley Lodge offers spacious but homely and comfortable accommodation, ideal for a relaxing holiday, special celebration or family get-together with a truly unique, private and tranquil setting to enjoy the ultimate country living experience. Every season is a wonderful experience to cherish at Rothley Lodge, whilst sharing this peaceful haven with only the wildlife that frequently visit the grounds, roe deer, red squirrels, badgers and a fantastic selection of bird life for the budding bird watchers.

In Spring/Summer, you can picnic on the many lawn areas available or relax on the timber decking and enjoy alfresco dinning with the use of our gas fired BBQ whilst lounging in comfort on the garden lounge furniture or for those short autumn/winter days, get cosy by the roaring open log fire in the family living room. For the music lovers, enjoy a pleasant evening playing the properties Victorian Grand Piano, although a little out of tune, a little sing song for entertainment, will add to your memorable family gathering.

Enjoy a pleasant social evening with a glass of fine wine in the kitchen/dining area whilst preparing your evening meal on the four oven AGA range, followed by a rare dining experience in the formal dining room.

The property offers three individually decorated double rooms with king size beds, one of which has an en suite with travertine tiled shower room, basin and wc, all with glorious views over the properties parkland, gardens or the ravine leading down to the river. A beautiful cot is available in the en suite double room and a further temporary guest bed is available for one of the other double rooms if an extra guest is required. There are two further twin bedrooms, all very accessible for the family bathroom, tiled in travertine with period roll top bath, rain shower room, basin and wc.

Free of charge trout fishing is available at Rothley Lodge during the fishing season 15th March - 6th October. (two rods free with guests own tackle - additional rods on request at daily charge).

DIY livery for guest's horses on request also (details and fees to be arranged with owner).

Pets must also be kept under control whilst in the property and strictly must not be allowed on furniture or in the bedrooms. Owners must bring their own pet beds and must sleep in the rear utility room or the kitchen to protect the property furnishings. Guests with pets must also vacum before departure to remove excess dog hairs etc. We charge a supplement of £6 per night for pets, to cover the extra deep clean required for follow on guests.

Wildlife & Bird Watching

At Rothley Lodge, we have an abundance of garden wildlife and birds to be seen for the keen watchers. We are very careful to protect the wild and natural landscape within the grounds to maintain the habitat for wildlife.

We still have Red Squirrels within the grounds, although working with the national trust at Wallington Hall to keep down the spreading Grey Squirrels in the area. Roe Deer are frequent within the grounds or you may simply see them passing along the river banks to quieter locations, early morning or at dusk.

If you are prepared to sit patiently and quietly down by the river, you may see the otter or the blue glistening flash of the Kingfisher flying along the Burn.

Butterflies such as Orange Tips or Meadow Browns can be seen and an abundance of Dragonflies and Damselflies.

Great property and welcoming hosts.
The house was exactly what we wanted, beautifully kept and wonderful grounds. Damian and Lorraine couldn’t have done more to welcome us. They are fantastic hosts. Very well equipped house and very peaceful. Thank you for a great stay.

Fantastic place with wondeful people.
We visited for New Years with a party of 9 people. The lodge was cosy yet massively spacious with all modern amenities. The kitchen was incredible and we enjoyed cooking in it. You don’t need to take anything as every utlitlty you could think of is all ready there. The grounds were stunning. We arrived after a heavy snow fall and everything was so picturesque. The rooms are immaculate and very large indeed, yet they remain cosy and warm which was very important with 3 young children. The children loved the grounds! They explored and loved the adventures and my eldest loved the grand piano in the bedroom too. We would certainly love to visit Damien and Lorraine again at some point in the not so distant future and would highly recommend to all.
