Popkins Family Vacation
Nice location , but had to clean it ourselves because it hadn’t been done and was late in afternoon and was told to get cleaning supplies and that we would be reimbursed and wasn’t followed up with , but we maybe we should have reminded the owner. Other than that we enjoyed the house and it’s location
FYI: It is a campground
In the past, we have rented at the outer banks in NC - this was a very different experience.
Pro:
-- very close to the beach, easy walk across a local road
-- playground and sports right across the road
-- water park, pool, arcade all onsite at the campground and available
Not so pro:
-- *Crowded* - campground is about a half-mile square and has *thousands* of residents
-- traffic is bad -- takes at least 10 minutes simply to get from the camp entrance to the house
-- golf carts everywhere -may be fun if that's your thing.
-- check-in is atrocious: do advance check-in *AND* use the extreme left lane when entering - otherwise you have up to an hour wait
-- house itself is OK, but small - it does sleep 14-15, but pretty tight. Common rooms are small/medium, bathrooms quite small.
-- house condition is just OK - a lot of doorknobs and locks didn't work.
Overall: if you're looking for a "party atmosphere" might be OK - if you're looking for a roomy, quiet beach house, nope.
We're so sorry this wasn't your ideal vacation. Ocean Lakes is a family campground that is hustling and bustling year round. Known for it's family friendly atmosphere, there is lots to do, but would not be an ideal spot for those seeking large homes with a quiet beach. OL puts restrictions on the homes on stilts, only allowing 1600 square feet-800 upstairs and 800 downstairs. The house must be divided using those guideslines, so the more bedrooms, the smaller each one is. Most of our guests utilize the express check in paperwork that we send to them about a month and a half prior to check in to avoid the lines. It keeps you from having to stop at the front and allows you to go right to your home upon arrival. If you don't utilize this, it can be quite time consuming to get your parking pass.
Perfect for Families
This was our first trip to Myrtle Beach. Friends of ours suggested this house at Ocean Lakes since they camp there every October and were familiar with it. It was just perfect for our twin grandsons who are five. We had a total of six adults and two children. This house was the perfect accommodation. There was a playground right across the street and of course the ocean was just a few steps beyond that.
My questions were answered in a timely fashion. I noticed from the pictures that the kitchen counter has been updated as well as the flooring in the main areas. Nicely done!

Ocean lakes
The only reason I didnt give the property 5 stars is because of the long walk to the front of the property. If you take a cab anywhere, they don't let any cabs in to come to the house to pick you up (the front gate was also very rude each time our cab arrived) and the walk was about a 15-20 minute walk to get to the front.
Otherwise the house and being right on the beach was amazing. A great vacation where many memories were made
