Peaceful oasis for those looking for an “off the beaten path” experience on a car-accessible island on a quiet mid-coast lake. Leave your worries behind as you drive down a 1.7-mile well-maintained private dirt road, guide your vehicle through a bit of water, and arrive at a spectacular 6-acre oasis with 1775’ of lake shoreline. The expansive yard overlooks Stevens Pond, and the secluded, wooded setting offers a spectacular three-sided lake view, a sandy soil private beach with seating and a large picnic table. Remote…yet still with close access to coastal towns Belfast, Camden and Rockland. This island escape ensures a relaxing retreat for couple(s) or a friends' gathering.
The Property
*Note there are TWO buildings on the 6-acre property: a modern 3-bedroom chalet (the rental) and a sizable detached 3-car garage with 1-bedroom studio (the owner’s living quarters (not the rental)). To reiterate, 2 adults (owners) and 1 dog reside on the property. The garage and cottage are in close proximity.
The cottage has a spacious deck on three sides, all with lake views. There is a size-able lawn with outdoor furniture and a propane fire pit on the deck for you to enjoy clear, starry nights. A wide path and short walk take you to an open space with shallow water access and a dock for swimming, kayaking, fishing and just plain relaxing. There is an additional propane fire pit at the beach. Enjoy the various sit-in, sit-on single and tandem kayaks provided for a day (or moonlight) excursion exploring Stevens Pond. Easy walk to a secluded trail for nature walks, which has the only direct access to a 40-acre nature preserve: https://www.georgesriver.org/quigg-island/. Please note that some areas of the lake frontage have a very steep incline, specifically right in front of the chalet. Therefore, we advise this property is NOT suitable for guests with young children.

The first floor has an open layout joining the living room, dining area and kitchen as one. The lake can be seen from these spaces through large windows and a sliding door leading to the deck. The Lake and Location
Stevens Pond covers 336 acres and has oodles of “nooks and crannies” to explore. It’s a major headwater of the scenic St. George River. Habitat conditions are ideal for a variety of warm water fish species, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white perch and chain pickerel. Although there is a public boat launch located off of nearby Route 173, boats are limited to 10 horsepower motors, so the lake is generally peaceful. You may even have it all to yourselves depending on the time of day and year. You will certainly hear the exquisite and haunting cry of a loon or two.
The nearby town of Liberty, Maine is very small (population less than 1,000 and not even one stoplight) yet has charm and several required destinations such as the Liberty Tool Company, Liberty Graphics, Pottle's Pub, Good Natured Studio, John’s Ice Cream, Lori’s Café, and Lake St. George Brewing Co..
So please, you won’t be bored to tears on a remote island! No matter the season, there is plenty of outdoor adventure and sightseeing to experience in the surrounding area. All of the wonders of mid-coast Maine are just a quick drive up or down the scenic coastline! In fact, with a tankful of gas or two, ALL of coastal Maine is at your disposal.
