Why Barb chose Delta County
Just a bit off of Highway 65 sits Tongue Creek Ranch, located in the fertile valley junction of Tongue Creek and Surface Creek. These creeks are tributaries to the Gunnison River and are fed by the Grand Mesa. Once upon a time Tongue Creek Ranch was one of the only ranches on Tongue Creek. In 1869 the ranch was divided up into several homesteads in the valley. The ranch you will be staying on still holds the name of the original Tongue Creek homestead. Tongue Creek Ranch is close to Cedaredge, Hotchkiss, Paonia, Montrose, Delta and the Grand Mesa. You will find ample hiking, ATV trails, fishing reservoirs and snowshoeing on the Mesa as well as local wineries and breweries nearby. Powder Horn Ski Area is up the road about one hour. If you're looking or additional skiing, hiking, fishing, etc., then you can also make a 2-hour trek south the iconic mountain town of Telluride.
