About this property

Handmade House on 70 Acres

A perfect Getaway Rental In Upstate New York's Lush Dairy Country

Handmade house on 70 acre former dairy farm. Halfway between Cobleskill and Cooperstown. Very secluded, very peaceful, with 2 ponds, babbling brooks, woods and apple orchards and wild heron on the wetlands. This is one of the most relaxing, rustic spots you can imagine. Come and hike the land, cook great meals, or have a great nap in a rocking chair by the fire! Private and quiet, on 70 acres, yet near to many wonderful things to do like Howe Caverns, Cooperstown, Glimmerglass Opera, antiquing, visiting Organic farms, Museums, The Baseball Hall of Fame, The Adirondacks, and on and on.

Our house and land are very RURAL. Our amenities reflect this. Please do not rent our house if you are expecting anything except rural, quiet, solitude on 70 acres away from it all. The house was hand built with love by my husband, and we offer it for rental to those who might also enjoy this rural quietude, in a low frills setting.

The farm is surrounded by state land, so Fall Foliage is amazing. And apple picking is a perfect afternoon activity. Upstate NY is amazing in the fall- crisp, chiseled days and brisk, clear nights. Enjoy our fire pit on the back patio under the stars.
Swimming in the spring-fed ponds in summer is so refreshing. The fishing in our ponds is wonderful. Our land glows at night with fireflies all July, and August brings nearby festivals, carnivals, and fairs all over the area.
The driveway is plowed in the winter for easy access, and the sledding and snowmobiling are fantastic. The woodstove is the heat source and heats the whole house beautifully and easily. And there is plenty of wood to keep it cozy all day and all night.
And the spring is a perfect time to come up- the brooks are babbling with melted snow, the acreage is turning green and starting to bloom, and the wild turkey, deer and heron abound!

The house was built as a one room cottage, and recently we added to it- so the living room is now double in length, there are 3 new bedrooms, and laundry room, and 1.5 new baths. Amenities- Wood burning stove, dishwasher, microwave, double oven, well stocked kitchen with all hand appliances, wrap around porch, deep tub, satellite TV, DVD player and movie library, WIFI DSL line, CD player, 2 King beds and 2 queens , washing machine and dryer, books and toys, linens and towels.

House comfortably sleeps 6 people. It is perfect for a family, a group of friends, or as a solo getaway from it all. The house is very kid-friendly, and well stocked with toys. Dogs are allowed with an extra deposit.
Monthly and Season rates can be discussed. Fully refundable Deposit required for each rental.

The farm is 3 hours from New York City, 45 minutes from Albany, 25 minutes to Cooperstown, and 20 minutes to Cobleskill.

Bucolic Getaway
Grenke Farm is a secluded bucolic getaway for a relaxing vacation. The house is spacious and the bed we slept in was very comfortable. Our contact person, Mindy, was helpful when we realized we had to change our dates for the visit. This is a pet friendly environment and our dog Mele loved running the hills. If we return to the area we'll certainly try to rent this place again.

Return Visit Is Just As Awesome
After last fall's short trip, our return to this picturesque property was everything we hoped for in a spring visit. From the weeping willows around the ponds, to the constant visits from local wildlife, the farm is full of tranquility. The wonderfully appointed house is a pleasure to enjoy... relaxing with a book and a cup of coffee on the porch watching the mist on the ponds, warming up by the backyard fire pit, enjoying comfy king size beds... all with mountain views to take your breath away. Cooperstown is a quick drive away for baseball and art fans. The Fenimore Museum has outstanding exhibits and the Baseball Hall of Fame is amazing. Cobleskill in the other direction has everything you might need or may have forgotten to bring, but we stayed on and around the farm most of the time. The dogs loved exploring and sniffing and swimming - it was a perfect vacation for them too. Thanks so much to Mindy for sharing this beautiful piece of upstate New York, it really is a wonderful, magical place.

A Lovely Stay on a Beautiful Farm
Our vacation on this beautiful property was outstanding. The hand built farmhouse is nestled at the base of a gentle slope, with an orchard of apple trees at the summit. The apples were fun to pick and snack on! The swimming/fishing ponds made my husband glad he had brought his fishing pole! Tons of grassy fields and slopes made our 2 pups very happy to run and play in. The house itself was gorgeous. Many upgrades in the modern kitchen, beautifully appointed bathrooms upstairs and down. The living room offered all types of media and family games to play. There was a spacious and adorable loft bedroom that kids would love. We took advantage of the fire box on a rare chilly night, which made the house toasty. There were many bedrooms to choose from; we opted for a kingsize bed with ensuite bathroom; so comfortable. The location of the property was convenient to "Herkimer Diamond" mines and Cooperstown Baseball Museum, so there was always something to explore. It was a glorious vacation and we are already planning our return trip!

We bought this beautiful acreage years ago, as a respite from city life. There was no house on the property, it had been torn down ages before. And we fulfilled a dream of hand-building a home for ourselves, and family, and friends.

Why they chose this property

We love upstate NY for it's gorgeous rolling hills, and pastural openness. We bought this exact property for the acreage, the secluded oasis, the views, the ability to build and create. And we wanted to lovingly restore the 125 year old barns.

What makes this property unique

Seclusion.
The Quietest place we know.
The land is ripe, the views elating, The privacy amazing.
The ponds for swimming, the orchards for picking, the sky for it's awe inspiring vastness
Watching storms roll in over the mountains.
