About Lauren Barber
Our family has lived in many places, but always love coming back to Charleston. We designed and built this house for families and friends. We wanted space for privacy and lots of nice gathering spaces including many decks and porches.
Lauren Barber purchased this House in 1995
Why Lauren Barber chose Isle of Palms
We love Charleston and the beach. Sunrises from the rooftop deck and just steps to the beach. Ocean views and links golf course views.
What makes this House unique
We enjoy having multi-generational gatherings with Great Grandparents approaching centenarian age and newborn great grandchildren. We wanted spaces right for everyone. Most of all we wanted a casual beach house that people can really enjoy. We did not want it to be too formal or fancy, just fun. We enjoy having world class golf and tennis just outside the door. And don't forget the beach. South Carolina's only Blue Beach rated for cleanliness. Also some of the best restaurants in the world. And so much history in Charleston. Charleston is continually rated as the friendliest city in the United States.

Clean, good-sized property for our group of 15. Steps from the beach and an easy shuttle ride to the Wild Dunes pools. Easy drive to local restaurants and Charleston. Owner was readily accessible via email leading up to and during our stay. We would definitely return.
Was a great house with plenty of room. Perfect location for beach and pool! An earlier reviewer said you couldn’t use the pools next to the house but we were told you could. Awesome week. Thank you!!
I'm glad you had a great week, Karen! Normally, we don't have access to those pools next to us, so we will look into this. Hope to have you back in the future!
We had a group of 18 ranging from 16-80 yrs old. Plenty of room for everyone and the main living location was laid out well on the 3rd floor. Nice views of the ocean from the deck and crows nest. Home was very clean and the kitchen was well stocked with glasses, utensils, and dishes. Only knock I would have is that every bathroom was shared by 2 bedrooms. Definitely not a deterrent for our group but something to be aware of. One tip- there is no pool at the home and the main resort pools are about a mile away. We texted the hotline number in the check in packet. They gave use the code to the pool right next door at the tidewater condos. Very nice pool and super convenient vs lugging everything to the beach all the time. I’d stay here again if we returned to isle of palms.
We are glad you enjoyed your vacation at our home, Gregg! Hope to have you back soon!
Remote but near the beach
This property is about a 20-25 minute drive through Isle of Palms and Wild Dunes from the IOP Connector. It's a bit tedious driving the distance just to run up to Harris Teeter to grab some paper towels. But, the house was clean and quite large. It's laid out a bit oddly, with bedrooms on the bottom two floors and the living area on the top floor, which can make it noisy for those trying to sleep when others are up. There are several porches which are nice for relaxing on. The dishwasher didn't always work and with our large group this was sometimes a big problem. Also, the settings on the stove are rubbed off and it's impossible to tell what's high/low ("off" is at a vertical setting of the knob - is left high or low?). We almost caused a fire putting some oil in a pan an chopping veggies for a couple of minutes.
Overall, our stay was good but I wouldn't rent this place again. I've rented homes on the non-Wild Dunes side of IOP and that is much more convenient and homes are better cared for.
Thanks for your feedback, Mary. The Harris Teeter is 4.2 miles from the house, but there is a convenience store that is 1 mile away. The reason we did the upside down layout was to take advantage of the ocean views and breezes. The dishwasher isn't very old, so we will have it checked. I'm sorry for the inconvenience.
Marvelous Family Time
Sleeping configuration perfect for all 19 of us!! Plenty of space for individual family activities: jigsaw puzzles, cards, some people had online work or studying. Kitchen and dining area well set up. Beach access lovely!! Even carts in the garage to cart our things to the beach!! Wild Dunes policy of no grilling took some working around, but would not stop me from reserving this unit again. Lauren answered our every question and was the perfect "hostess"! She even made suggestions that enhanced our visit. Would absolutely rent this home from Lauren again.
Oh Laura, I’m so glad y’all had such a wonderful time! We would love to have you come back soon!
Unfortunately, the house's construction was such that it was extremely noisy, making it difficult to sleep on 2nd floor if anyone was even walking on 3rd floor. The rooms are small, with just enough space for bed and/or bunkbeds and table, as if builder was maxing out every foot of sleeping areas.
The property between next door house, was completely littered with trash.
Surprisingly, and disappointingly, the ocean was mostly brown from the creek water emptying into it just up the beach.
The owner was very pleasant to deal with, but there was pitiful lack of communication with property management.
It was a pleasure working with you. We are sorry you had a bad experience and appreciate your feedback.
