Quiet tropical stay.
We were looking forward to experiencing the Caribbean coast of Panama and Casa Manana certainly exceeded our expectations. The lodging was clean, well furnished and equipped, and located adjacent to a section of beautiful beach with that wonderfully clear and warm Caribbean. We were impressed with the extensive and well maintained grounds supporting an abundance of tropical plants which the host readily described to us. A veritable personal botanical garden! Wildlife that was viewed included sloths, howler and capuchin monkeys. We also spotted lots of different birds species, toucans, parrots, oropendollas, hummingbirds, etc. The owner was easy to communicate with prior to arrival and once we arrived was attentive and informative. Overall, a very informative and enjoyable experience.
Thank you Sandy and Joe.
I throughly enjoyed your company and I am very happy that you enjoyed your stay.
Not at all happy
Upon arrival, host met us with shirt unbuttoned and fly unzipped. Not a great 1st impression. Problems with house were: roof leak making tile slippery; kitchen sink leaked underneath when faucet was turned on and water was all over kitchen floor; ants all over kitchen counter due to sink strainer having papaya seeds left in it by prior tenant; only coffee maker was French press, which was dirty when we got there, and no tea kettle to heat water, had to use boiler which is not very safe pouring; listing said there was a washer, but host told us we couldn't use it till morning due to solar, when we opened it, it was full of someone else's clothing; no hair dryer; sheets were pilled and felt like sandpaper; ceiling fans made so much noise thought they would fall; could only get 1 burner of propane range to light; flame lighters were empty and we were left with a small Bic lighter; road to home was washed out - we used a taxi, but would not have driven the rental car on it. We left after 1 night of a planned 3 night stay. Description of home implies host will help with booking boat rides and/or tours. None of that was mentioned. Walked to beach, but it was just about non-existent, should not be advertised as accessible. Grounds are lovely.
We contacted you 3 weeks before your arrival to arrange pick up, but you did not respond until the day before needing instructions as on how to arrive from David with a rental car. We were happy to send you all the info, but you should have done this sooner when you have to consider ferry schedule. Bocas town had just been through very severe weather, the town flooded and there were mud slides.
Our listing states that we live on a dirt road, that the house is run on solar and that we do not use blow dryers or curling irons and such, as they consume a lot of energy. Same with the washer, we were happy to let you use it when the batteries had enough charge.
Our 600 ft. Beach is accessible, did you go down there? You never asked about boat tours or other things that we could have arranged for you, you seemed to have a bad attitude from the start. Your second payment was supposed to have been made the day of your arrival, but you neglected to do so. Was it pre planned?
We are sorry that there were some minor oversights in housekeeping, we do live in the jungle and insects are present. Nobody had as of yet complained about the sheets.
We checked the stove and all 6 burners work, there were 3 stove lighters available. Sorry for the lack of a tea kettle. And Ann, sorry I did not meet you in suit and tie, the zipper clearly was an oversight, as for the shirt....we are in the tropics.
I would have been happy to help with any of the issues had you only asked.
Beautiful, Remote Stay
The grounds of this place are lovely and besides the owner and gardener, we hardly saw anyone else around. It's a great spot to get away from the hustle and bustle and explore secluded beaches. Due to the remote location, you will need to buy groceries in town and mostly cook on your own. For a fee, the owner may have availability to pick you up from the airport and take you grocery shopping before bringing you back to the rental. We loved the large porch and view down to the ocean. We saw capuchin monkeys while having breakfast on the porch and could hear howler monkeys nearby. There will be sounds of nature and there is a gardener who you may hear some times. There is a lot of interaction with the owner and they are responsive as needed. Due to this being a green home on solar power, air conditioning is not an option. For some, the breeze will be enough. For others, you may get too hot.
An awesome experience.
We've traveled a lot, but this is a unique location and total new experience. Gundula and David literally educated us to this new world of tropical plants, flowers, insects, birds, and animals. We got to see the turtle tracks on the beach and a newly hatched baby turtle. They made sure we saw that. She helped locate a monkey and baby when we couldn't find one. The home is very nice and huge. It feels like a home and there's nothing you're lacking (they DO have wifi). Our hosts were very friendly and included us in their lives. Great vacation! Our kids are grown, but this would be a great location for a family with school age children. They do have 2 very friendly dogs who enjoyed our attention too.
Thank you Carol and Andy. You surely helped Pati to trust people. Thank you.
Estate like ocean from rental
This 15 hectare estate with 700 feet of ocean front beach and an expansive tropical garden with rolling lawns was quite a fine. The owners Gundula and David who live on the upper level of the house were warm, helpful and outgoing. The ground floor of the house is the rental and offers a very large 2 bedroom, 2 bath living space with a large open living room/dining room and large stone patio overlooking the garden, ocean and bird island which lies about a mile offshore. We were lucky to have a calm ocean when we were there and swam in the ocean everyday. David picked us up from town with his 4x4 truck and took us shopping to the local fish store, vegetable stand and grocery store in town and then out to the house which was a 30-40min drive. He also drove us back to town when it was time to leave. I stayed at the house with 4 friends and would happily return with my family. The house was well maintained, clean and the kitchen well appointed with all necessary appliances.
Thank you. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay.
Casa Mañana is better than advertised. That is not to say the listing is not good. In fact, that is why we booked the place. However, once you get there you will see that the property is well taken care of. There are flowers and fruit trees all over the place. The grass is well “manicured” and the beach on the property is clean! We walked along the beach front to the neighboring beaches and none of them were as well taken care of as Casa Mañana’s. We go to see and hear Howler Monkeys on the treetops of the property. There are all kinds of birds as well.
But the best part of staying there is hospitality Gundula and her husband offer. They are friendly and helpful and far more for us than we expected. We would certainly go back to Casa Mañana. Is certainly recommend this paradise to anyone!
Thank you Jose
We loved having you with us.
We are on the North/West end of Isla Colon. It is a very private setting with Nature all around
