Perfect Retreat!

We had a great stay at the cottage! My husband, two kids, and I were there with my parents for a weekend of skiing. Sara and Ted were responsive and helpful. We enjoyed sitting by the fire and having a place to relax after skiing. The kids loved the trundle bed upstairs and the games. Thank you!

Perfect Ski Mountain Getaway

I recently had the pleasure of staying at this incredible cottage on a couples trip, and I can’t recommend it enough! Perched at the top of the mountain, the views of the ski slopes were a huge plus—waking up to the beautiful snow scenery every morning was a dream. The cottage itself was cozy yet spacious, with every amenity you could possibly need for a comfortable stay. From a well-equipped kitchen to a warm fireplace, it truly felt like a home away from home. Whether you’re looking for a relaxing retreat or an adventure-filled getaway, this place is perfect. I can’t wait to come back!

Wonderful cottage!

The cottage was cozy and comfortable for our family of five! (Two teens and one nine yr old) The location was incredibly convienent for skiing or other winter/outdoor activities at Sugar Moutain. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything for cooking at home, the beds & bedding were lovely and the yard was so great! I’d love to rent this property again in the warmer months to really enjoy the outside space more!

Great home and great location

Home and property were perfect. Modern and maintained but very warm and cozy. Very responsive and accommodating hosts. Great location near the slopes. Home was clean and had a lot of extra items that we needed but didn’t want to purchase to use one time. We enjoyed our stay thoroughly!

Perfect for 2 adult couples

This was a perfect stay for 4 adults. The setting was relaxing and private, setting in the trees with plenty of wildlife to observe. The outdoor fire pit was an added bonus. I was pleasantly surprised to find the kitchen had every utensil, dish or cooking pan i could ask for! Definitely would book again.

Great Cabin

We had a great time. Everything was as advertised. Our 4-year old son wanted to stay. Location was great also. We went to Wolly Worm festival right down the street in Banner Elk, Alpine roller coaster, linville falls, and caverns. We look forward to coming back to Sugar Mountain and will definitely see if this cabin is available again.

Wonderful winter play stay!

Thanks so much Sara. It was a wonderful house. Within minutes of skiing, tubing and skating. We had snow and the side yard was amazing for sledding. The house was clean and we even were welcomed with a fun welcome coloring pages and hot cocoa. Perfect winter get-away!

Amazing Mountain Get Away!

Our experience was flawless! Sara and Ted were very helpful with recommendations for skiing/snowboarding at Sugar Mountain which saved us a lot of time from standing in lines and instead, got to be on the mountain to take advantage of our long weekend stay! They were super responsive with any questions we had as well. As far as the property, we couldn't have asked for a better location. The place was decorated beautifully and was extremely cozy. We plan on coming back to Sugar Mountain and will definitely look to rebook.

Relaxing Spring Break @ The Cottage

Cottage was welcoming and warm. Great deck. Everything you are looking for in a high country cottage. Highly recommend, Sara was very helpful and with good recommendations. Not large, but very cute, comfortable and well laid out. Got some spring skiing on Sugar Mountain before it closes for the season. Even saw a bear and some deer on the property, pretty cool. Location was perfect. Walked the hilly neighborhood everyday. Great trails everywhere. Spent time at Grandfather Mountain, Glowing Rock, Boone, and Banner Elk. Also recommend the Wilderness Run alpine coaster and Syvalley Zipline in Blowing Rock that has new all electric ATV's. Great restaurants everywhere, especially the local ones. We spent the afternoon at Booneshine Brewery with live music on the beer garden lawn for St. Patrick's Day weekend.

Winter fun

Had a great time! Against a snowy, wintry backdrop, this warm and well appointed cottage was very conveniently located near some awesome winter activities even for non-skiers. Our family had a blast at the Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster, and, thanks to a tip from Sara to make a reservation ahead of time a couple months ago, all five of us got to do tons of snow tubing runs at the organized and well-run Hawksnest Snow Tubing. We roasted marshmallows for s’mores at the cottage’s own firepit and went ice skating at the Sugar Mountain resort outdoor rink (parking and rink were literally within a 5 min drive). We were close to several restaurants (Bella’s was recommended in the cottage handbook and really hit the spot after all that snow tubing) and got everything else we needed at the Food Lion to cook and eat all our other meals at the cottage itself. The kitchen had all the cookware we needed. We did boardgames in the living room and watched deer wander through the yard from the back deck. The hosts were easily accessible and we had everything we needed for a fun vacation.

Clean and cozy

Sara and Ted's property is one of the cleanest and best maintained that we've ever booked. The kitchen was stocked with good cooking utensils and dishes (non stick pots and pans, measuring cups, baking sheets, coffee mugs, grilling utensils, etc), not stuff on its last leg like some places. The mud room was nice for getting out of our boots and ski clothes without tracking all the crud through the house, and had enough hooks for everyone to hang hats and jackets keeping everything organized - great for those mom's and wives who are expected to keep up with the belongings of everyone in the house. Lol! They also had some board games and a variety of tv show/movie options which kept us entertained on the rainy days when we couldn't get out much. They literally thought of everything! And the location is only minutes away from everything... not even 5 minutes from tubing and ice skating, 8 minutes to the grocery store, and 15-20 minutes to Grandfather Mountain.

Would book again in a heartbeat.

Sara and Ted's place feels like home! Their cottage has just enough modern updates while maintaining the authentic mountain cottage feel. We had everything we needed extra welcoming touches. You can't beat the location for access to Sugar Mountain. There's also a base shuttle that will stop at the end of the cabin's road, which helped us around tricky holiday weekend resort parking. We'd happily stay again!

What a sweet cozy place!

We wanted to take the kids on a quick snowboarding trip close enough to Atlanta to drive. I was turned off by the look of most of the rentals and then by some miracle I saw this place! It lived up to the beautiful photos, and there were a lot of special little extras, like hot cocoa, and coffee pods. The beds were so unbelievably comfortable and it was a very short distance to the mountain. Can’t wait to come back!

Annual Family Ski Trip

This cabin is adorable! It was very clean and the host was very communicative. And you can't beat the location. It's a 5 minute drive to the ski resort, but the entire drive consists of just driving down the mountain. Once you're there, you're at the entrance of the ski resort. You can even see the lifts from the back porch. Would definitely stay again!

We enjoyed our three-night stay at the cottage, which was immaculately clean and a perfect size for us to all have room to sleep, hang out, and spread out. Adorable mountain house in view of the ski slopes

This was a perfect house for us! Two queen beds, and two twins, +2 full bathrooms, made it comfortable for four people. The kitchen was well stocked, and the place is decorated in a cute style. The porch was great, and we were able to sit on the rocking chairs in the sun. The driveway is extremely steep, so please do follow the guidelines about four-wheel-drive if there is going to be weather. The Internet was a little spotty at times, but spectrum was able to fix it pretty quickly. We will definitely be back!

About the host

Hosted by Sara and Ted

Host profile image
We’re a young family of four who love the outdoors and have a long history with these mountains. Our story started at on the Snowboard Team at Appalachian State, where we spent lots of time snowboarding at Sugar Mountain (back when the old yellow lift was still around!).

If you swing by Extreme at the base, tell them you're staying at the house of someone who helped win the "beer league" trophy behind the counter — we like to call it a major award.

Today, it’s been amazing to watch our kids fall in love with the same mountains we did. When we're not here, we’re soaking up the sun in Charleston, SC.

We hope Cool Breeze Cottage gives you the same feeling it gives us — a chance to slow down, recharge, and make great memories. Enjoy!

Why they chose this property

Why choose this property? It's all about skiing and snowboarding, exploring Appalachian State and Boone, hiking, fishing, gem mining, mountain biking, and soaking in the peace and quiet. Plus, enjoy local breweries and take a step back to unwind and spend quality time together.

Did I mention we live in Charleston, SC? When the Lowcountry heat index hits 110, that mid-70s August high at Sugar Mountain sounds absolutely perfect
