Stay and check out the Whangarei Heads Art Trail on during Easter. 50 artists involved from painting, photography, pottery, glass blowing, textiles and sculpture.
Going to the beach in summer was a core part of my childhood growing up in Northland. Times have changed and now 'a million dollar view' often comes with a million dollar price tag! Because Manaia View is an authentic kiwi bach I am able to share with you a traditional beach experience. The best bit is you don't have to travel on a gravel road anymore to get there! Enjoy.
Manaia View is a self-contained 1 bedroom unit with an open plan lounge with beautiful sea views overlooking McLeod Bay in Whangarei Heads. A large deck equipped with a BBQ opens off the sunroom. Sit back, relax and take in the fantastic sunsets with a cuppa or a glass of wine.
I provide all linen. Manaia View has a fully equipped kitchen with complimentary tea and coffee provided. There is ample off street parking to park a boat or kayak. A sofa bed provides extra sleeping space if needed.
Choose your favourite beach from the many sheltered nooks and bays to the life guard patrolled surf beach, Ocean beach. New Zealand's newest DOC marine reserve is at the end of the Reotahi road. Bring your snorkels. The combination of deeper water and swift current flows has produced a diverse reef-fish population unusual for a harbour environment.
Mt Manaia overlooks Manaia View and is a very popular mountain to climb with stunning views from the top. An easy walking track leads on from the Reotahi marine reserve to the ruins of a 1921 Freezing Works overlooking Marsden Point oil refinery. A walk to Smuggler's Cove takes you past WWII gun turrets. A coastal walk when the tide is out at the end of McLeod Bay allows you to visit a hidden pioneer cemetery.
A folder in the unit has further information on what to do and helpful maps.
Advance bookings preferred as I do not live on-site.
1 night minimum stay doesn't apply for long weekends.
Extras: Linen (included); NOTE: Under Kiwi bach tradition you are expected to: clean the house and do the dishes before you leave.
NO DOGS. Manaia View is not fully fenced and backs onto a kiwi reserve. Council bylaw prohibits dogs on the beach in summer.
