About Kerry Starling
I live in Rotorua, at Lake Tarawera, with my partner Sandy. Because of this, I will probably not get to meet many of my guests staying at Tirohanga Dunes. I enjoy music, movies, English football and other sports, and holidays away with my partner in our camper van. We have 8 grandchildren between us and another on the way. I am originally from Otorohanga, where my parents still live, and I work for Rotorua Lakes Council as their Procurement Manager. I also have a property at Kawaha Point, on Lake Rotorua, called The Willows, which is available for short term holiday accommodation.
Kerry Starling purchased this House in 2006
Why Kerry Starling chose Tirohanga
This is a traditional Kiwi bach - reasonably basic, but comfortable. You will be required to bring your own linen and towels, but everything else is provided, and you will be right next to the beautiful Tirohanga Beach and the Dunes Cycle Trail. Guests are expected to leave the property clean and tidy, as they found it, as it is generally not serviced between bookings
What makes this House unique
Great fishing, including surfcasting from the beach. Walk through the back gate, across the dunes to the beach, or take the bike out the gate and start riding the Dunes Trail into Opotiki. Only 500 metres away are the biggest ice creams in NZ plus fish n chips and supplies as may be required, at the store in front of the campground. Check out the Two Fish Cafe for a coffee and cafe dining, when in Opotiki.
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
Perfect little bach
Little old school bach, perfect and super warm for a winter getaway. Loved it. And loved the fact I could bring my dog too.
Great Stay at the Beach
Very much enjoyed our stay - lovely property with amazing access to the beach.
Beautiful location, quaint classic kiwi bach
Due to unforeseen circumstances our stay did not go ahead but the property owner was helpful and professional in assisting with our situation - we will happily book another stay.
Lots of mice in the house and inside the couches, cockroaches and major blowflies. Tv only has one channel and after we contacted them about changing it to other channels we were told to use the Freeview machine..(it has no buttons at all) The bathroom had old used soap and hair from the last user and sand all in bath. Beds are hard and uncomfortable.
Best parts though beach close by, character and fireplace.
Disappointing to receive this review over 2 weeks after the visit. No complaints at the time. The Bach relies on guests leaving the property as they found it. However, a major spring clean has just been completed. Other guests have been able to figure out the TV/DVD/FreeView.
Authentic kiwi Bach on main road but close to beach
Convenient location and seamless stay while traveling through. Very close to the beach!
Will come again
Great setting and authentic kiwi bach. Clean and tidy. Important that! Drains blocked on the second morning but we cleared around outside and sorted that. Emailed Kerry to explain the problem and he accepted our suggestion that a guard mesh to stop leaves/dirt etc be placed over the gully trap. The problem was sorted because I had a 'handyman' with me who was willing to cope with the stench. Some guests may have not been so resourceful. I would have been 'miffed' if I had had to do this myself.
There is a store in front of the campground, only 500 metres from the bach, that makes the biggest ice creams in NZ, and also provides basic provisions and fish n chips.
Check out the Two Fish Cafe for a coffee and casual dining in Church Street, Opotiki.
