Bach or holiday home, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Bathrooms, (Sleeps 9)
My husband and I bought the section and lived in a caravan while building our home. I was 4 months pregnant. My husband was the carpenter and I was the hammer hand[a pretty average one] fortunately we had wonderful friends who were always at the ready to pick up the hammer. It was a challenge but 2 years later and two beautiful baby boys we moved in. We are so proud of our home and believe it or not we are still happily married. We love being able to share it with visitors from all over the world. It is a truly special place.
janeir585 purchased this House in 2008
Why janeir585 chose Ohau
WE built here because we have a love for the outdoors. My boys and husband are great skiers . I am pretty average ,but I really love getting up the mountain. It is amazing being up there looking down on the Azure lake. We also enjoy the Bike trail which would be one of the best in New Zealand. It is also a wonderful place to just relax and do nothing. The house is so set up for that. Once on the window seat it is hard to move!
What makes this House unique
The house was designed by our dear friend and Architect Lisa Webb. She is a true genius. Check out the Shower!. The house is warm in winter ,cool in summer. Loads of space. The bedroom are separate from the living area so very Quiet. but what we love most is it accommodates easily two families in comfort. The deck is awesome. North west facing to catch to watch the sunset or to look at the amazing night sky.

Beautiful, cosy, quiet house
Our second time to the Brown House and hopefully we'll get back again another time as it's a special spot. Very restful to stay here with everything we needed. Convenient for the Oahu ski field too. Highly recommended.
Wonderful guests. Thankyou so much for looking after our home so well. We hope you return again
Perfect for a Luxurious Alpine Escape
We booked this place for a family gathering to celebrate my husband’s 50th birthday, and it was perfect for us. It combined the luxury we were seeking for such an occasion, with a beautiful rural outlook, and it was well and truly big enough for all eight of us (including Maisie, our cocker spaniel).
When we first arrived, one of my daughters (who is 21 :) stood at the bay window of the main living area, and asked if we could live here!
All contact with the owners was prompt, courteous, and very accommodating, and we checked in and out with no hassles whatsoever. We loved that the cleaning was all taken care of, so that we could just relax and enjoy our stay.
On the practical side, it was important to some of the university students in our group to have access to wifi (one of them sat an online test while we were there), and it worked perfectly in the main living area. We shopped for groceries in Twizel, which is about 25 minutes away. There are TWO FourSquares there, including a full-sized supermarket, so all our food needs were well-met. I also appreciated the properly appointed kitchen, and was easily able to make a birthday cake, and decorate it!
I highly recommend this property for anyone looking for a luxurious South Island alpine escape.

Amazing holiday home, loads of space, the highlight would have to be the shower room! Lake Ohau is absolutely magic.

Stunning house with all the amenities, slept like babies with the quiet surroundings and comfy bed! Our dog also had a ball playing out on the large backyard thank you very much :)
Lake Ohau is set in the southern alps in the Mackenzie basin which is spectacular. It is famous for the gliding as the thermals and scenery is world class. The Skiing is great as there are many ski fields in the area, but the Ohau Ski field is my favorite. Heli skiing is very popular in this area if you want to find the best skiing. The Alps 2 ocean bike trail would be about one of the most spectacular Bike Trails in nz. Beginning at Aoraki [MtCook] and finishing at Oamaru on the east coast. The best bit of it being Lake Ohau. The Hiking is great and will suit any level of fitness. The Trout and salmon fishing is very good. A choice of secluded untouched valleys or fishing in the canals. The water is pristine. If you are not a fisherman then you can just buy salmon from your local salmon farm. If you fly into Queenstown be sure to check out all the amazing wineries on your trip north to Lake Ohau. Central Otago wines are very good.If you are travelling South from Christchurch, stop at Geraldine for their chocolates and you can check out Tekapo where there are hotpools,Ice skating, louging, and health Spa. You will pass by LAke Pukaki where you will see Aoraki and then onto Twizel Past Lake Ruataniwha. The best of course is to come, Wait till you see Lake Ohau. it is one of New Zealand's best kept secrets. And Only a fifteen minute drive off the main highway. It is really worth the detour.
