About saraht485
My husband and I bought Kosbys Cottage in 1996 just after our wedding. We had also just established Utopia café and were looking forward to a busy season after the eruptions of 1995. 22 years, 2 children and several other restaurants later, we now reside in Tauranga and escape to the cottage at every opportunity. We love the area in any season and particularly enjoy sharing outdoor adventures there with friends and family.

Why saraht485 chose Rangataua
Kosbys Cottage is a 1911 kauri house that was built for the local school teacher. We are only the 3rd owners after the teacher passed in the late 60's and the cottage was purchased by a family for their ski holidays. At the time of looking through the property to buy we were told that most of the furniture to be sold with the house was original. Being newly married, we had little furniture and I immediately fell in love with the barley twist leg oak dining table and chairs. My husband thereafter used to tell people we bought a dining suite for $50k that came with a little cottage in Rangataua. Kosbys Cottage has had significant improvements over the last 2 decades - it has had top to bottom do overs to ensure maximum comfort and enjoyment. While we bought the cottage as our first home, it quickly became our solice away from the intensity that hospitality brings. When our son was born in the house in 2001, it's fate was sealed as being the property we will pass to the next generation. We named the cottage after our first dog, a lovely black Labrador whose greatest joy was to run the 6 kilometres between town and home, clocking 35ks. We have truly loved planning and executing all the changes - especially being able to focus on what improvements our guests would appreciate. With an off-the-grid cabin being built at the other end of the garden, ultimately we will spend more time in the area hosting in one, living in another.

Rustic cottage with volcano view
A 100+ year old house with all the charm (and a little of the inconvenience) of a house that age. Modern updated kitchen , though a little difficult to cook due to the use of tanks for the gas stove, which means you can only cook on High or Higher. The host very nicely stocked the place with breakfast items such as eggs and bread which was great! The laundry drying contraption in the livingroom was a trip--and it worked! Very good internet connection. This would be a good house for a family or group for a ski or hiking vacation-- two of us didn't use the entire house. Easy access to Ohakune and Tongariro national park.
Homely cottage in convenient proximity to Turoa, Ohakune.
The home is very welcoming as is Sarah. Everything is very neat and clean and Sarah really goes beyond client service to ensure that you are well looked after and settled in. The home has a wonderful fire place and entertainers kitchen with heating throughout. We really enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back.
Cozy cottage with everything one needs
Lovely spot, warm cottage with everything one needs plus. Amazing kitchen, beautiful decor. My son loved the play station. Sara available and helpful. My only wish would be for a bathtub and didn't realize 2nd queen was in nook off lounge (which is where I slept by the fire) not a true 3rd bedroom. Would definitely stay again.
Kosby’s Cottage
Highly recommend.
Great memories!
We had a lovely stay at Kosby's Cottage, all was as shown in the cottage very much the same as the pictures. The only thing was that the garden isn't sectioned off and if you have a dog you would have to tie them on a long rope outside or keep them inside. The location is really good only 5-10 drive minutes from the local town with cafe's and the walks in the national park or by the river. The area where the cottage was placed was ok just quite a contrast of cottages which had been renovated and those that are quite run down which was sad to see. There was just some minor things which I informed Sarah about that some of the lights didn't work in the bathroom area and one of the lamp was out which she was going to sort out with the electrician and offered a new bulb for the lamp, the fan didn't work either but nothing major. The cottage had everything you needed and more than adequate and we loved it. There was a great view to the Mountain and we were lucky to get snow down to the cottage one of the mornings which was just magic! We would love to stay again in the near future.
Perfect Get Away
I am hesitant to give a great review on this little gem as i want to keep it all to myself to ensure no one else out books us in the future! We had the perfect get away. The house was spotless, communication with the owner was above expectation and the location was perfect. The bonus was having our dogs with us. It snowed on the first day we were there and the house was snuggly warm! Honestly the best bach we have been to.
