The house was an original delight with wonderful art, lovely old cutlery, crockery and pots and pans as well as warm, clean, comfortable bedding. A couple of ideas for a more comfortable stay would be to advise paying guests that there would be food left in the fridge and cupboards, and to improve the heating. In April we found the house very cold with no floor coverings, inefficient electric heaters, and no heating at all in the upstairs bathroom. Also providing a clothesline or drying rack would have been helpful.
Hi Thanks for your review.
I am a bit confused :) sorry about what you are saying . Did you expect food or there was food. We aim to just have the staples in the home . Tea /Coffee/sugar/salt/pepper etc..
Sometimes the odd guest will leave some jam or sauces. We try to keep it low. If you are requiring more food left, it is clearly advertised that you need to bring your own items.
Heating - Oil and electric heaters are available in each room. The home is fully insultated and more . Thank you also for your lovely comments . Regards Tracey
Fully recommend staying at Kearney Rhodes House
The cottage is beautiful with an excellent location. We had a great stay and enjoyed the charm and well equipped facilities. Would definitely recommend to others and we will stay there again if possible when we next visit Akaroa. Thank you to the owners for sharing such a gem.
Thanks very much for the stay :)
Hope to see you again.
Lovely location and fun to see such an old home be restored
Lovely location and fun to see such an old home be restored. We enjoyed our time there.
(not for public) the shower upstairs needs draino, I meant to leave a note. It nearly overflows it is super slow draining.
An interesting experience
There were no problems here...It was like stepping back into the past, and what you would expect for a home of this age ...
convenient and close with everything you need ..comfortable beds and a good hot water
supply ... for a larger group possibly a table and benches in the kitchen area would make the stay a bit more comfortable and the food etc. removed from the fridge/freezer ... perhaps instructions on how to use the TV ... overall it was a good stay
Thanks very much for the stay and your feedback.
I will pass on your ideas about the table and benches and we will sort out the TV instructions.

The house coped well with 8 adults (4 couples) having 2 bathrooms and the bedrooms all a good size.
The house coped well with 8 adults (4 couples) having 2 bathrooms and the bedrooms all a good size. Well catered for everything you needed to cook with. Great location to everything and just a short walk into the main shopping/eating area of Akaroa. Fun to stay in a restored historic house but with modern facilities where needed and a credit to the owners for their restoration work. Would recommend this house to others looking for a change in accommodation style from your regular house/home.
Location great and the house amazing but spoilt by the very messy outside weeds and grass very long
Location great and the house amazing but spoilt by the very messy outside weeds and grass very long with furniture all over the place. Would love to have seen it tidy. Also inside leftover soaps, make up , containers left lying around - felt thry should be thrown out. Loved our stay however.
