Peaceful retreat in the sounds
We had a lovely time in this little cottage by the sea. It's in a great location on a bush clad slope overlooking the bay but still close enough to town to pop in for a coffee.
The view out into the sounds is a little obscured by trees but still great.
The cottage is small but is well furnished and has everything you need.
We loved the little touches like the fresh bread and nice bottle of wine on arrival.
All in all a fantastic place if you're looking for a relaxing retreat from the busy world
Great guests. Left the cottage so clean and tidy! Lovely comments.
We are closed now for winter and the middle tree is being taken out, as we have also noticed the growth. It is so quick and silent! Thank you.
Couples Retreat review
Great place and many nice touches!
What a magic spot
We stayed here for five nights for our 25th wedding anniversary. What a beautiful place. Nestled into the trees, you can barely see neighbours on any side, and the view through the trees out into the sounds is just fantastic. There were lots of little touches from the hosts who have clearly travelled before and so know the things that are useful when you are away from home. We missed the fact that breakfast was supplied, so arrived with some provisions to find that were now totally over-catered. The free-range eggs, and honey produced on the property were particular favourites.
In general, Waikawa Bay is a great place to base yourself for exploring the Sounds. We did some boat trips from Picton, and kayaked from Anakiwa. The Ship Cove to Furneaux Lodge walk was fantastic as well. Not to mention the wineries around Blenheim and so on.
We would highly recommend this place, and will definitely be back. Thanks so much to our hosts for a wonderful time.
So pleased you enjoyed all. Great to read where you went. We do have kayaks on the beach!........next time!!
Perfect guests. Left the cottage immaculate. Thankyou.
Idyllic relaxing cottage
Beautifully presented, a highlight on our trip around the South Island. Very well appointed, fantastic breakfast provisions, Barb the host is a joy. We enjoyed our stay immensely. Very much recommended.
Stunning space to switch off from the world.
This wee spot is so beautiful, even in the rain. When the rain cleared, hearing the birdsongs was absolutely wonderful. The place is cozy and welcoming, and felt so comfortable. A perfect place to 'un-plug', it's also close enough to Picton town centre, that you don't have to cook for yourself if you don't want to. The bed was so comfy, and the shower was wonderful. Everything that was supplied was such a lovely treat. It really was the perfect getaway.
Great to have this couple stay.
Left the cottage amazingly tidy!
Highly recommend for future renters.
A beautiful little cottage with a lovely view over Queen Charlotte Sound. We loved our 4 night stay
The property was lovely. The attention to detail and all the little extras were great.
We loved waking up in the norning to the bird song and wonderful view over Queen Charlotte Sound. It was so close to Picton for cafes etc but seemed so far away.
We would certainly stay again .
Thankyou! Lovely to meet you and hear how you enjoyed your time in the area as well. Thanks do much for leaving the cottage so clean and tidy!
The Queen Charlotte walkway is a must do!!
Although it is generally considered a 4 day walk, it is possible to do part of it as a one day walk and the best 1 day walk for us is the SHIP COVE TO FURNEAUX LODGE.. This gives you the opportunity to view most of the Queen Charlotte Sound on your way out on the boat to the furthermost point of the sound, and although the 1st 30 minutes walk is uphill, the remaining walk is easy and pleasant. Ending up at Furneaux lodge for full lunch or just a coffee. Perfect!
VINEYARDS: As Marlborough is a renowned world wide wine area, a visit to the many vineyards and their restaurants is also a must do. Alan Scott, Rock Ferry, St Claire, Wither hills, Brancott Estate, Wairau River... these are some of our favorites.
Information/brochures are available at our cottage.
Ferries run to and from Wellington several times a day.
Movies are held at the aquarium in Picton. .... YES!
So a walk through the aquarium to find your seat in a cosy little theater to watch some of the latest movies is a great way to spend time if the weather is poor!
Other short walks, around the area of the cottage are explained in a booklet provided there. The beach 3 minutes walk down the track from the cottage provides solitude, privacy and peacefulness. A place to sit and contemplate or sleep or swim, depending on the seasons and weather. In a storm, a place to blow away the cobwebs and become invigorated!
Blenheim is another realm..Peter Jacksons Omaka Aviation Heritage Centre is worth a vist, but Blenheim is another story, and one that you can investigate further.! WELCOME TO OUR COTTAGE IN THE QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUNDS!
