The Lodge has a Morrison family history dating back to 1873 when Edward Morrison
purchased the property and had the largest pip fruit orchard in the Sourthern herisphere.
Edward is famous for propergating the Morrison Seedless grapefruit on the property. In the early 1900's
the fire blight desease was suspected on the property and the whole orchard was distroyed,
even though Edward denied this and this has been proven as he kept several pear trees
which still fruit abundantly today. The property was turned into a dairy farm and has come through the generations.
Ian the present owner is the forth generation of the Morrison family and purchased the farm in 1971. Milked cows for
two years but as this was uneconomic changed to dry stock. In 1973 he and his wife Jyl began wood carving with
swamp Kauri and from there established the Redbluff Gallery which became a very successful business, subsidising
the farm income. The Lodge was their home for 43 years but in March 2015 they started to have built a new home
for which they made their own bricks. So turning their old home into a Lodge seemed to be the right thing to do and
they opened this in January 2016. The encouraging comments of all who have stayed has proved to them that this has
been the right decision and they look forward to meeting and hosting people from all walks of life.
