About Hazel Sims
Hot Water Beach Accommodation is a family business owned by Blair & Jean Saunders and operated by their daughter Hazel Sims. Hazel lives nearby and can be available upon your request if you need assistance. The Saunders family has lived at Hot Water Beach since the 1950s and have been providing holiday accommodation for decades. They annually rent out their family home Te Puia House for the summer season and purposely built Te Puia Lodge to replace the original bach next door in 2003. Over the years they have learnt a great amount about what holiday-makers need, so you can expect to be well catered for at Te Puia. The house and lodge are well maintained to provide you with all the comforts of home so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your holiday.

Really lovely place.
Great location and beautiful accommodation.
We had a lovely stay, the property is well equipped, has a fantastic fireplace, quality beach towels and a comfy king bed with quality bedding. The TV is a great size too. Outdoor area is huge, fantastic to be outdoors but undercover when using the BBQ. Location is awesome for going to Hot Water Beach (spades provided), Hot Water Brewing Co, Cathedral Cove (walk from Hahei to enjoy the natural track before you reach the tarred path at the lookout), The Pour House in Hahei and Whitianga. Make sure you visit Lonely Bay and Shakespeare Cliff Lookout. We also did the Karangahake Windows Walk on our way back to Auckland - definitely worthwhile.
Comfortable and handy to everything we needed.
Beautiful house in a beautiful location
Amazing house in such a lovely, calm surrounding yet right opposite the beach. Such a great design where you can relax in the outdoors even in the rain. The house had absolutely everything you needed including tea, coffee, milk and eco friendly home products as well as the most luxurious bed linen and towels. Would definitely stay again
Great location and nice house setup.
We had a great holiday.
Superb spot, great home!
Loved this place! So close to the amazing hot water beach and fantastic cafes! Central location to all the other attractions in Coromandel! Will definitely come back!
Te Puia Lodge is located in Hot Water Beach, Waikato, New Zealand. Hot Water Beach is located on the eastern seaboard of the Coromandel Peninsula, 30 minutes south of Whitianga. Hot Water Beach boasts a unique feature that attracts visitors from all around the world! This is of course the natural mineral hot springs that are exposed on the beach at low tide. Pick your spot and after a bit of digging with a spade you will have your very own hot spa pool on the beach.
You can easily walk around the small village of Hot Water Beach from the central location of Te Puia Lodge. For your dining out pleasure head next door to tranquil Hot Waves Cafe, a licensed café and gallery. They have the best coffee in Hot Water Beach! The cafe is built in earth brick and is nestled in a serene native garden. Or wander along to Moko Artspace, an amazing gallery and sculpture garden brimming with contemporary New Zealand art and object, glassware, jewellery, sculpture, painting, prints and designware. Moko is the perfect place to choose something special to take home.
Many beautiful beaches and landmarks are nearby making the house a great base to explore from. The Coromandel region features some of New Zealand’s best beaches. With around 400km’s of coastline and over 100 offshore islands, it is one of New Zealand’s favourite marine playgrounds for diving, fishing and surfing. There are also many excellent bush walks throughout the local area. Start by digging your own hot pool across the road at Hot Water Beach. Then for a great day trip that is only a 5 minute drive from Te Puia Lodge, pop over to Hahei and walk to the world renowned Cathedral Cove. Within 15 minutes drive you can visit, Cooks Beach, Purangi Estuary, Shakespeare’s Cliff, Flaxmill Bay, Front Beach and Ferry Landing. Heading south you will find Sailor’s Grave, Tairua and Pauanui. Or head north to enjoy Coroglen, Whitianga, Simpson’s Beach, Kuaotunu, Otama, Opito, Whangapoua and New Chums and Coromandel town.
